The Karate Kid is a remake of the same movie which got very popular in the year 1984. This time, Columbia Pictures appointed director Harald Zwart (Agent Cody Banks, Pink Panther 2) to conduct the remake on this movie.
The Karate Kid tells about Dre (Smith), a child who was forced to move to China after his mother (Henson) transferred to the region. Unable to adapt to the environment, Dre became a loner and often become the bullying subject of his friends at the school. Dre then met Mr Han (Chan), who saw the bruises found on his body, later Mr Han decided to take care Dre. Mr. Han then become his friend, He also taught him karate techniques to defend himself from the kids who like to bully him.
The Karate Kid, released in 1984 was a martial arts-themed movie, it was very successful in its distribution during that time. Not only commercially, the movie was also managed to provide nominations for Best Supporting Actor Pat Morita. Does this latest version can compete with its previous version, let's wait and see.
Directed by Harald Zwart and starring Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan and Taraji P Henson, Columbia Pictures has scheduled this movie to be released on June 11, 2010.
