Andy Serkis yang tenar karena membuat karakter Gollum di trilogi The Lord of The Rings dan The Hobbit semakian mengumumkan sebuah bocoran yang tidak terduga. Dilansir dari Variety melalui Ace Showbiz, Senin (30/6/2014),Andy menyatakan dirinya akan mengisi peran di film The Avengers: Age of Ultron 

Ketika dirinya sedang sibuk untuk film terbarunya, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ternyata Andy kebanjiran order untuk  proyek The Avenger dan Star Wars: Episode VII. Dirinya mengakui bahwa saat The Avenger baru muncul dirinya sudah didapuk sebagai konsultan perusahaan teknologi penangkap gerakan yang bernama The Imaginarium.

Namun ketika ditanya oleh media akan perannya di The Avenger: Age of Ultron, Andy sepertinya masih menutupi karena hanya menjawab, "Saya memainkan sebuah peran. Dalam The Avengers, saya sudah bekerja dengan Mark Ruffalo."

Sebelumnya terdengar isu bahwa Andy Serkis ternyata didaulat untuk membantu aktor Mark Ruffalo dalam membuat gerakan Hulk agar terlihat lebih hidup ketimbang film pertama The Avengers.Lalu Andy Serkis juga menambahkan bahwa teknologi yang ada dalam fil The Avengers sebelum akan berbeda dengan yang akan datang.



Jajaran enam pemain di film pertama The Avengers akan muncul kembali dalam Avengers: Age of Ultron. Mereka adalah Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, dan Jeremy Renner.

Sementara itu, Untuk film Super hero sendiri, The Avengers: Age of Ultron akan tayang (bila sesuai jadwal) pada 1 Mei 2015 mendatang dan dilanjutkan dengan Ant-Man pada 17 Juli 2015. Namun sebelum rilisnya kedua film superhero penjaga bumi tersebut, Guardians of the Galaxy akan menjadi pengantarnya pada 1 Agustus 2014.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Movie Review

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was meant to bring the story of the mutants full circle by returning to the one character who (arguably) made everyone stick together, and who was, at the same time, clearly one of the most beloved mutants ever created. The prequel should have explained how Wolverine controls his berserker rage, and how he grows into the dangerous X-Man with remarkable leader skills that we see in the successful trilogy. In all fairness, when Logan / Wolverine / Hugh Jackman lets rage take over him, the picture is not pretty – but that’s not to say the film itself manages to rise above the level of familiar competence, movie critics argue.

Understandably, X-Men and Wolverine fans will love this film, simply because it brings back on the big screen not one, but several beloved characters, including the all-powerful villain, now-silent but former-heartthrob Deadpool. Those who are not so easily sucked in by the mythology will notice from the first second that, if anything, “Wolverine” is just a mild attempt on Fox’s behalf to squeeze even the last drop of juice still remaining in the franchise – while also promising countless other sequels, spinoffs and whatnot. It’s a hurried movie that bits off more than it can chew, and the only things that hold it together are Hugh Jackman’s admirable efforts and performance.

Of course, that’s not to say that “Wolverine” is bad from start to finish, but it does imply that Fox should have thought twice before rushing into making such a film if it did not feel ready for it – just like fans were saying it would a while back. Comparisons with the leaked version are to be avoided when speaking of it, as hard as it may seem, but, even so, the film still appears like an unfinished version of a production we’ll never see. It’s either because the script tried to include more stories than it was feasible, or because director Gavin Hood fell a victim to his own well-learned vocabulary of special effects, but “Wolverine” comes short of that certain something, that je ne sais quoi that could have turned it into both a blockbuster at the box-office and a quality film, critics say.

Rewind to 1845. Logan is James, a sickly boy who accidentally murders his father, a man he did not even know that well, and who, this way, finds out about the existence of a half elder brother, Victor Creed aka Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber). The two run off together and, once their super-abilities are discovered and properly mastered, enlist their services with the army and fight other people’s battles. Even from the start, it becomes obvious that Logan, unlike Victor, is not the violent type: he may flex and howl and pack the meanest punch, but, deep down inside, all he wants to do is help others. Oppositely, Victor just wants to kill, cause bloodshed and basically beat to a pulp anyone weaker than him, which means just about everyone who crosses his path.

There is, of course, a devious army officer who schemes and plots, and orchestrates things to suit his agenda. Colonel Stryker (Danny Huston) deceives Logan into believing he’ll help him – but only after making him think he had taken something very precious from him –, and offers to make him indestructible. When the Frankenstein-like Wolverine emerges from the steaming bathtub, muscles ripped and dripping in the water necessary for the adamantium to be injected and cooled, he’s a man out for revenge. And revenge he’ll get, because he has to fight not one, but at least three villains – which is precisely why fans and critics alike were disappointed by the twisted, too complicated plotline.

The action scenes are, as expected, impressive but not because there really is some novelty to them or they carry any relevance to the main character, but rather because they’re used as dust in the eyes of the viewers, critics say. Since chances of Wolverine or Sabretooth being killed are slim to none, for instance, their confrontations become redundant since they lack finality and a specific sense of purpose, failing to show the evolution of the characters. The same goes for the other action sequences, which seem either too far-fetched – since the last “X-Men” movie, Wolverine has acquired a new ability, that of jumping really high in the air and tearing helicopter blades with his adamantium claws – or downright useless, with the mutants showing off their skills in a very blatant manner, when they could easily attack in “stealth” mode and be just as efficient.

Nevertheless, as noted above, none of this is the cast’s fault, all of the actors struggling to really make this heavy, unstructured material work. Jackman, as far as he’s concerned, seems to be the only thing keeping “Wolverine” from falling into the abyss where comic book-inspired movies go to die (where “Daredevil” is also to be found), as they say. Ryan Reynolds does his bit as well as Wade Wilson, a terribly charming and annoying skilled soldier who only lacks discipline.

Liev makes for a brilliant villain, having a certain sense of delightful menace about him that initially stuns his victims into not knowing whether they should run in fear or welcome him with open arms. Swift and insinuating, as well as extremely good-looking, Taylor Kitsch as Remy LeBeau aka Gambit also puts on a great show, as do the other mutants. Should anyone think Fox killed “Wolverine,” they should at least know for a fact that it wasn’t because it hadn’t wonderful actors to work with – and an equally awesome story to match.

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” runs 107 minutes, minus the Easter eggs at the end of the final credits. It opened in Argentina, Germany and France at the end of April, reached the US, Romania and Sweden on May 1, and will conclude its theatrical run in Japan, on August 22.

The Good

Fans of the comics should go to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” at least to see their favorite heroes and villains again, if not for the movie itself. Backed up by a strong and determined cast, as well as by certain fun and highly entertaining moments, “Wolverine” makes for a light way of passing almost two hours, but offers no guarantee as to it being a memorable experience as well.

The Bad

“Wolverine” falls short in many respects but the one that pains fans the most, critics argue, is the fact that it promised the world and delivered, well… nothing. Its complicated plotline, obvious use of special effects to mask shortcomings in the story, and the abundance of useless trivia make it one unsuccessful effort on behalf of Fox to continue cashing in on the mutant milk cow.

The Truth

The truth about “Wolverine,” it is being said, is that it should have not been made – or, at the very least, that it should have gone into more competent hands than those of director Hood and Fox high-ups. Without being downright painful to watch, “Wolverine” offers little to redeem itself in the eyes of the fans, with Jackman’s performance being among those few things. Fans will certainly see it, but whether they’ll also like it is a different matter altogether.

Indiana Jones reviewed

Early in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull — which had its tumultuous world premiere today at the Cannes Film Festival — our hero (Harrison Ford) and his sometime pal Mac (Ray Winstone) come up against a convoy of tough Russians. "This ain't gonna be easy," Mac says, and Indy replies, "Not as easy as it used to be."

The old-guy jokes are as true for director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas as for the star. It's 27 years since Raiders of the Lost Ark started the Jones boy on his adventures, 19 years since the most recent Indy movie, The Last Crusade, and 30 years this month since Lucas and Spielberg sat on a Hawaiian beach and made a handshake deal for an action film that one would produce and the other direct. They'd be stupid to ignore the toll that time takes on moviemakers and movie stars. All were in their 30s when they made Raiders. Now Spielberg, Lucas and Ford are, respectively, 61, 64 and 65. And don't forget two other crucial collaborators, composer John Williams and editor Michael Kahn, who have given all the Indy films their cheerfully martial sound and cut-to-the-bone fury.

There are scenes in the new movie that seem like stretching exercises at a retirement home; there are garrulous stretches, and even the title seems a few words too long. But once it gets going, Crystal Skull delivers smart, robust, familiar entertainment. Ford looks just fine, his chest skin tanned to a rich Corinthian leather; he's still lithe on his feet, and can deliver a wisecrack as sharp as a whipcrack. Karen Allen, 56, who was Indy's saucy love Marion Ravenwood in Raiders, still has that glittering smile and vestiges of her old elfin swagger. They needn't break a sweat keeping up with the (relative) kids: 39-year-old Cate Blanchett, the movie's villainess, and Shia LaBeouf, who plays the young lead Mutt Williams, and who may be tapped to continue the series after Ford's retirement — at least that's what Lucas hinted a few days ago here in Cannes.

Crystal Skull is intended, and works effectively, as instant nostalgia — a class reunion of the old gang who in the '80s reinvigorated the classic action film with such expertise and brio. So don't expect the freshness of the what-one-man-can-do plot in Iron Man, or the oneiric visuals of Speed Racer. Spielberg and Lucas, and screenwriters David Koepp and Jeff Nathanson, are looking not forward but back, to the first three films. They know that moviegoers would be disappointed not to see the talismans of Indys past reappear here. Shall we itemize?

1. The Paramount logo dissolves into some kind of mountain. Every Indy films opens this way, from one monument to another. (As Veronica Geng wrote in a review of the first movie, "Spielberg" is German for "play mountain.") In Raiders the logo became a mountain in South America; in Temple of Doom, a bas-relief on a Chinese gong; in The Last Crusade a big boulder in Utah. This time, suggesting more modest aspirations, or maybe kiddingly deflecting the audience's gargantuan expectations, it's a weeny prairie dog hill, from which a critter emerges just before being nearly run over by speeding cars. We're in Nevada, near Area 51, and it's 1957, a time of rock 'n' roll (Elvis's "Hound Dog" on the soundtrack), fear of the Soviets (and why not? they've just penetrated a U.S. military base), fear of The Bomb (hey, what's that mushroom cloud on the horizon?) and mass sightings of UFOs (coming right up).

2. International conspiracies. Nazis in the first and third Indys, Indian Thugees in the second. But it wouldn't be the '50s without Commies, in the chic person of Irina Spalko (played by Blanchett with the severe demeanor of Cyd Charisse's Ninotchka in the 1957 MGM musical Silk Stockings and the black bob Charisse sports in The Band Wagon). Rather than the simple matter of conquering the West militarily, Irina is part of a Soviet plot to cloud our minds by getting access to some secret technology that is concealed either in an Area 51 warehouse or in the remotest jungle mountains of Peru. "We will change you, Mr. Jones, all of you, from the inside," she proclaims. "We will turn you into us." Ewww, creepy. Glad that didn't happen.

3. The Fedora, the bullwhip... the snakes! We see the hat just before we see Indy; brown headwear is still in style in 1957. As for Indy's bullwhip, it's still faster and deadlier than a bad guy's gun. In the opening Area 51 scene, he uses it to disarm about a quillion Russkies, and to swing in Errol Flynn style from one warehoused beam to another. (Mutt will later show the same swinging derring-do on Peruvian jungle vines.) As for the snakes, there's just one, but indy is readier to die in quicksand than to use it as a lifeline. The nifty new predators are South American red ants, which Spielberg and Lucas may have remembered from the 1954 movie The Naked Jungle, and which can swarm over a man by the millions and drag him into their formicary for a nice fat meal.

4. A cool car chase. A lot of the elements in Crystal Skull may feel like mandatory reprises of the old tropes, but the high-speed two-vehicle fight between Indy's team and Irina's goons is up there with the Raiders jeep sequence, more complex and sophisticated in its engineering of physical action. (In the post-film press conference this afternoon, Spielberg said, "I believe in practical magic, not digital magic," and in "real stunts with real people.") If there's a scene that film students will be poring over, decades from now, this is the one.

5. Family revelations. Spielberg movies are often about the separation and reconstituting of a family, and the last two Indy films are no exception. In Last Crusade we met Indy's father (Sean Connery) and learned that Indy's real name was Henry Jones, Jr. Indeed, "Junior" was Dad's apparently derogatory form of address for his son. That gag is repeated here, since — as everyone who's paid the slightest attention to pre-release scuttlebutt knows — Mutt is Indy's son by Marion. (Why is he called Mutt? Presumably because, as we learned at the end of The Last Crusade, Indiana was the name of the Jones family dog; Mutt's just extending the breed.) He enters on a motorcycle, in the leather-jacket regalia Marlon Brando sported in The Wild One, and soon displays some of the athletic skills he must have inherited from his absent dad. Whether the smooth-visaged LaBeouf can grow into Ford's craggy machismo — or even whether he can top the teen Indys that have been played by River Phoenix (in The Last Crusade) and Sean Patrick Flannery (in the TV series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) — is a question later Indy installments will have to answer.

6. Archaeology! Recall that our hero's day job is as a professor of archaeology. On vacations he goes out, makes trouble and saves the world. Or does he? Indy's job, basically, is plundering indigenous cultures for treasure, in capers that will cost hundreds of lives and add exactly nothing to the lore of civilization. (And, in three of the four movies, he comes home empty-handed.) But heck, it's an adventure movie; leave all ethnic scruples home. Scholars of antiquity will be pleased to know that Crystal Skull — with its runic inscriptions, vanished languages, hidden caves and dreadful secrets — is the archaeolog-iest Indy film yet. In fact, the movie is a little plot-heavy around the middle. It seems more determined to tell a complicated story than to use a story as the excuse for a convulsive. nonstop thrill ride.

7. Start with a big bang, end with terrifying mysticism. The creation of these movies always has this method: start with the opening and climactic sequences — in Raiders' case, the South American cave with the rolling rock and the opening of the Ark with the melting skulls — and work inward. (Or as Spielberg says on the new Last Crusade DVD: "How do we fill in the middle?") Here, the bang couldn't be bigger. The 12 min. opener takes Indy into Area 51, where he escapes into what seems to be an ideal Levittown ... except that the people are mannequins, a nuclear bomb is about to be detonated, and Indy has exactly one minute to find a safe place to hide. (That place is one of the film's smartest inspirations.) As for the ending, well, we're not giving everything away. Let's just say that Indy and Marion could be The X Files' Mulder and Scully on assignment in Peru.

We'll see how David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson cope with middle age in their X Files movie later this summer. They may suffer from the occasional creaking joints of Crystal Skull. (And, truth to tell, there was more applause here at the beginning of the screening than at the end.) But they'd be hard-pressed to inhabit the sleek, satisfying adventure that three septuagenarians and their pals dreamed up here. There's a moment in the film where Mutt sees Indy negotiate some really cool bit of action, and the kid can't help mouth a "Wow." That's the right response to this inevitable summer blockbuster. Lucas, Spielberg and Ford ain't the Over the Hill Gang yet.

Big Love

Big Love is an HBO television drama about a Utah family that practices polygamy. Big Love stars Bill Paxton, Chloë Sevigny, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin and Harry Dean Stanton.

The show was co-created by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer who also serve as executive producers. Olsen and Scheffer spent two and a half years researching the premise of the show, with the intent of creating a fair portrayal of polygamy in America without being judgmental. The series theme song is "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys; musical score for the series is composed by David Byrne. The score for the first season was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh.

The series revolves around Bill Henrickson, his three wives Barb (legal wife/first wife), Nicki (second wife) and Margene (third wife), and their combined family of seven children. Henrickson lives with his family in three neighboring houses in Sandy, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City.


Season 1 introduces the main characters and revolves around the family's struggles to live their polygamous lifestyle while keeping it a secret from the outside world. While Bill goes about expanding his chain of home improvement stores ("Henrickson’s Home Plus"), he struggles to balance his three wives and his strained relationship with Nicki's father, Church prophet Roman Grant. From his compound on Juniper Creek, Roman seeks to gain a greater share of the profits from Bill's business ventures. Bill, who is resentfull towards Roman for expelling him from Juniper Creek as a teenager, opposes this and manipulates his alcoholic brother Joey, a former NFL player, to gain a seat on the church's board of directors, in order to undercut Roman's considerable influence and to maintain a level of autonomy from his controlling grasp.

Bill's first wife Barb is shown to be the anchor for the plural Henrickson family, but as the show progresses it is revealed that Barb has mixed feelings about the concept of polygamy and only her love for Bill makes her stay. Meanwhile, second wife Nicki (daughter of Roman) struggles to fit in with modern life outside the compound and her own desire for power within the family dynamic. Nicki compensates for her isolation by developing an addiction to shopping, leading her to become $60,000 in debt via credit card charges.

Third wife Margene (who is barely twenty years old) meanwhile struggles to find her place within the family, as both Barb and Nicki look down upon her due to her youth and fertility, having given birth to two children via Bill and is pregnant with her third child.

Most of season one focuses on the family's struggle to keep their family's secret from their friends, neighbors, and co-workers. However, things come to a head when Barb is nominated for a "Mother of the Year" Award, resulting in her and Bill being outed as a polygamist couple. Meanwhile Joey's mentally unstable wife Wanda poisons Alby Grant (Roman's son and chief minion) when Alby discovers that Bill is using Joey as a pawn in his scheme to undermine Roman's power within the church and threatens the two.

The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)

Synopsis :
In Forbidden Kingdom, American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano), who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China.

There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan (Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk (Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King - imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Along the way, while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors, Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness, Ni Chang (Li Bing Bing), Jason learns about honor, loyalty and friendship, and the true meaning of kungfu, and thus frees himself.

Forbidden Kingdom is loads of fun!

A kung-fu-obsessed teen browses a Chinatown pawnshop where a magical staff awaits its rightful owner.

"Do you want this magical staff?" asks the elderly Chinese proprietor, whose demeanor and caked-on makeup suggests a much younger actor who has never actually seen an old man unless he's in a movie played by a much younger actor.

"I'm a teenager," says the boy. "My staff is already magical. It just wishes it could conjure beyond that corner of my imagination where the cast of Gossip Girl lives."

Michael Angarano, who's usually cast as "young" versions of bigger stars with more screen time, is the teen who falls off a roof and, thanks to that magical staff, drifts through a dimensional portal into ancient China, suffering no ill effects in transit, except for noticeably puffed-out hair.

"The winds of space and time are nature's blowdryer," Angarano explains.

He looks around and is lost amidst fields of rice and a chest of hair.

Well, one hair anyway. But fields of rice!

This is the ancient China of warlords and swordsmen wearing vast quantities of sparkly eye shadow. "I will fight you to the death!" says the Jade Warlord, "but first...Aesthetician, where's my Ming Maybelline?! Cook, where's my hasenpfeffer?!"

"Blue eyeshadow went out in the 1280's!" Jet Li shouts at the Jade Warlord, and there's no kung-fu move stronger than hurling a catty cosmetics critique.

Enter Jackie Chan, a nutritious part of any kung-fu breakfast. He's a "traveling scholar," a.k.a. "homeless drunk." But a homeless drunk with mad combat skills! And he's not only drunk, he's immortal. Or maybe, like all drunks, he just thinks so. Read More...

Aku suka banget nonton film ini. Meskipun aku agak telat dateng ke studio, tapi ternyata filmnya belum mulai. Thank’s God! Yah, tak mengapalah kalo aku dapet kursi yang mepet tembok, yang penting bisa nonton ajah.

Openingnya begitu apik, kreatif dan menarik. Film yang digawangi ama Jackie Chan, Jet Li, si imut Liu Yiffei, dan pastinya si ganteng Michael Angarano ini bergenre action. Tapi bukan Jackie Chan namanya kalo ga ada unsur komedinya. Jadi dari awal film ini sampai di endingpun kita disuguhi lelucon-lelucon yang ga segan-segan bikin kita ngakak. Ciamik juga nih sutradaranya, Rob Minkoff, memadukan Jet Li dan Jackie Chan di satu film laga kaya gini. Tapi sayangnya, akting Jet Li kurang memukau. Bukan kungfunya, tapi karakter yang dibawain ama Jet Li ini menurutku kurang pas. Jet Li yang selama ini kita liat sebagai sosok yang kuat, gagah, berwibawa dan garang ini tiba-tiba meranin sosok kera sakti alias Sun Go Kong yang culun dan kiddo gitu. Atau, justru itu yang menarik?
Yang jelas, banyak kejutan-kejutan tak terduga di film ini. Apa, dan siapa yang ada di film ini semuanya patut disimak sebagai obat penawar stress dari kegiatan kantor, sekolah dan bahkan mengendurkan otot-otot ketegangan menjelang UAN. :hehe:

Tenang aja, ga perlu berpikir keras untuk mencerna film ini, karena memang alurnya sederhana, ga rumit, tapi patut diacungi jempol.

Iron Man (2008)

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the CEO of Stark Industries which produces advance weapon systems for the U.S. military. Tony's father started the company after WWII, and after his death Tony inherited the company, worth billions. Tony lives the life as a hard drinking, rich playboy ladies man, but he is also a genius who has invented many high-tech items for the company. Tony flies to Afghanistan to demonstrate a new weapons test to the United States Air Force. On his way back to his plane, his convoy is attacked by terrorists, and Tony is wounded by a Stark Industries missile. Tony is captured and held hostage in a cave with Yinsen (Shaun Toub), a doctor who saves his life. The terrorists force Tony and Yinsen to reproduce the new destructive Jericho missile Tony was demonstrating from parts of other weapons. Instead, Tony decides to build a suit of armor with Yinsen's help. The suit gives Tony the strength and protection to be able to escape the terrorists. Back in America, Tony builds a better suit of armor which gives him superhuman strength with the ability to fly. With the help of his personal assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Air Force Lieut. Colonel Jim Rhodes (Terrence Howard), Tony vows to protect the world as Iron Man. Akhirnya... setelah trilogi Spiderman, muncul lagi sebuah film berbasis komik yang sukses mengangkat sisi manusiawi karakter pahlawan super.

Alkisah hiduplah Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) seorang pengusaha yang kaya raya dari perdagangan senjata. Digambarkan tokoh Tony Stark ini sebagai sosok flamboyan yang doyan pesta-pesta, main cewek, pokoknya hidup sesuka hati deh. Tapi semuanya berubah waktu dia disandera sama sekelompok teroris. Di situ dia ngeliat langsung betapa berbahayanya senjata-senjata yang dia jual selama ini kalo sampe jatuh ke tangan orang yang salah.

Berkat keahliannya merakit senjata dari peralatan sekedarnya, Tony berhasil meloloskan diri dan insyaf nggak mau jualan senjata lagi. Sebagai gantinya dia memilih jadi pahlawan super bernama Iron Man.

Plotnya utamanya memang sederhana, tapi film ini jadi tontonan yang enak diliat berkat kejelian para penulis skripnya menambahkan elemen-elemen lain ke dalam cerita: ada unsur politik bisnis, bumbu cinta-cintaan dikit, dan nggak lupa sisipan humor dalam porsi yang pas.

Robert Downey Jr. membuktikan bahwa sekalipun terkenal tukang bikin onar di Hollywood sampe bolak-balik keluar masuk penjara, dia juga seorang aktor berbakat. Pernah jadi nominator Oscar di film "Chaplin" dan pernah menang Emmy Award waktu bantuin film "Ally MacBeal", Bobby bikin karakter Tony Stark jadi lebih bernyawa. Dari Tony yang playboy cunihin di awal film bermetamorfosa jadi Tony yang lebih peduli sesama - walaupun tetap narsis. Gwyneth Paltrow berperan sebagai personal assistant-nya Tony, Pepper Potts. Walaupun gue nggak ngefans sama Gwyneth, tapi di film ini dia berhasil membuat penonton (baca: gue dan seseorang yang duduk di sebelah kanan gue, yang sering ngintil kemanapun gue pergi) jatuh hati pada karakter Pepper - mbak-mbak karyawan yang giat bekerja dan nggak banyak cingcong. Jeff Bridges... ya ampun, gue sampe nggak ngenalin dengan kepala botak dan jenggot papa smurfnya itu. Dia juga bermain bagus sebagai seseorang yang jeli memainkan kartu truf di kancah peperangan bisnis.

Tapi satu yang menurut gue paling pantes dapet acungan jempol banyak dari film ini adalah desain produksinya. Kostum Iron Man yang serba canggih itu keliatannya meyakinkan banget sehingga gue nggak ragu sedikitpun bahwa benda itu betulan bisa terbang. Proses perancangan, mekanisme gerakan, sampe desain H.U.D. (head up display - monitor yang muncul di depan muka si pemakai kostum) ditampilkan detil banget... keren! Nggak heran karena urusan special effect dipegang sama tim ILM - miliknya juragan George Lucas pencipta Star Wars.

Ketika saya pertama kali melihat Iron Man suit di internet; pikiran yang hadir di benak saya hanya satu. Saya harus menonton film ini. Iron Man adalah salah satu karakter superhero Marvel yang paling disorot selama tiga tahun terakhir. Perseteruannya dengan Captain America di Civil War (dalam dunia komik) yang berakhir dengan kematian Captain America dan diangkatnya Iron Man menjadi pemimpin semua superhero resmi dunia Marvel sempat membuatnya dibenci banyak pembaca komik. Akibatnya keputusan Marvel mengangkat Iron Man ke layar lebar sempat dikira sebagai keputusan yang blunder dan salah waktu. Toh, Marvel maju terus, dan ketika Iron Man suit berlanjut dengan trailer film ini hadir di internet, hype yang ditimbulkan film ini hanya bisa disaingi oleh film keempat Indiana Jones dan The Dark Knight saja.

Iron Man adalah Tony Starks, CEO sekaligus inventor dari Starks Industries yang memproduksi senjata-senjata perang. Mayoritas senjata Tony dipakai oleh para tentara Amerika untuk melawan para teroris. Karena itu, ketika Tony diajak ke sebuah daerah di Timur Tengah (konon Afghanistan - tetapi tidak ada detail mengenai hal ini) untuk mendemonstrasikan senjata terbarunya: Jericho Missile, ia sama sekali tidak menyangka bahwa ia berikutnya akan disandera. Lebih gawatnya lagi, pecahan dari roket peluru yang ia ciptakan tanpa sengaja masuk ke dalam jantungnya. Akibatnya, Tony harus memasang peralatan khusus di dalam jantungnya guna mencegah pecahan peluru itu membunuhnya. Dalam tawanan, Tony dipaksa oleh para teroris untuk menciptakan Jericho Missile bagi para teroris itu. Tony jelas tidak terima dan secara diam-diam menciptakan sebuah armor bagi dirinya. Inilah awal kelahiran Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr. sempurna sebagai Tony Starks. Hanya itu yang bisa saya katakan mengenainya. Tony Starks bukanlah Peter Parker - seorang pemuda lugu yang menemukan kemampuan sebagai seorang laba-laba. Dia bukan Clark Kent yang ribet dengan segala permasalahan kehidupannya, bukan juga Bruce Wayne yang seumur-umur kerjaannya meratapi nasib kematian orang tuanya. Tony Starks adalah seorang playboy sejati, flamboyan dengan wanita, sekaligus nyentrik dan jenius. Satu hal yang jelas - ia bukan orang yang rendah diri dan rendah hati. Itu membuat Iron Man menjadi sangat menyegarkan untuk ditonton. Karakter Tony Starks memungkinkan nada film Iron Man tidak terlampau serius atau gelap; sebaliknya, sang sutradara Jon Favreau pun cukup cerdik membalut film ini serealistis mungkin sehingga tidak menjadi seabsurd Fantastic Four.

Iron Man bisa dibilang dibawa oleh Robert Downey Jr., tetapi ia mendapatkan dukungan dari aktris-aktris lainnya. Mulai dari Gwyneth Paltrow yang memiliki chemistry sempurna dengan Downey Jr., Terrence Howard yang pastinya sangat dinantikan kehadirannya sebagai War Machine di sekuel Iron Man, sampai Jeff Bridges yang berperan menjadi musuh utama dalam film ini. Gabungan akting yang fluid dari keempatnya membuat film ini tetap menarik untuk ditonton, bahkan ketika adegan aksi tidak mendominasi film - saya berani bilang kalau saya justru paling menikmati Iron Man ketika melihat Tony Starks dengan Pepper Pots sang sekretarisnya! Omong-omong soal cameo di film ini, sudah rahasia umum kalau Stan Lee selalu nongol di film-film yang berdasarkan komik buatannya, tapi apa anda cukup cermat untuk melihat Samuel L. Jackson yang hadir sebagai Nick Fury dalam film ini. (Hint hint: jangan terburu-buru meninggalkan theater begitu ending credits bergulir).

Secara keseluruhan, Iron memang film terbaik untuk membuka summer tahun ini. Ia mampu menjawab semua pertanyaan skeptis yang diarahkan kepadanya. Dan tidak hanya itu, buka mata anda lebar-lebar untuk film The Incredible Hulk tahun ini. Kemungkinan besar cikal bakal dari film The Avengers akan berawal dari sana!

Seorang ilmuwan kaya yang jenius Tony Stark yang memiliki perusahaan pembuatan senjata canggih Stark Industries diculik saat mendemokan sejata barunya, sebuah rudal canggih yang diberi nama Jericho di padang pasir Afghanistan. Penangkapan Tony secara brutal menyebabkan jantungnya lemah dan mengharuskannya memasang sebuah alat pacu jantung agar Tony bisa tetap hidup. Kelompok penculik ini memaksa Tony untuk membuat rudal yang sama untuk keperluan terorisme. Alih-alih membuat rudal, Tony dibantu Yinsen yang juga seorang tawanan malah membuat sebuah armor yang dilengkapi dengan senjata canggih. Berhasil meloloskan diri dari kawanan teroris, Tony memutuskan untuk menghentikan sementara produksi senjata di perusahaannya yang ditentang penuh oleh anggota dewan dan wakil perusahaan Obadiah Stane. Diam-diam dibantu oleh ajudannya Jim Rhodes seorang perwira angkatan udara, dan Pepper Potts sekretaris pribadi Tony yang cantik, Tony mengembangkan armor yang dulu pernah dibuat di Afghanistan dengan penambahan dan penyetabilan bahan sehingga tercipta armor dari bahan emas dan titanium yang solid. Masalah baru timbul dimana Obadiah merasa dirinya yang berhak menjalankan Stark Industries dengan menempuh segala cara untuk mencapai tujuannya, termasuk melenyapkan Tony. Apakah Tony bakal tinggal diam dan senjata apa yang disiapkan Obadiah untuk melawan sang Iron Man

Some heroes are not born, they're built

Banyak yang nunggu icon komik 1 ini buat diangkat ke layar perak. Aku sendiri belom pernah baca komiknya dan belum pernah tau ceritanya sih, jadi gak banyak berharap pas nonton. Suka ama guyonannya yang mayan segar, terutama antara Tony dan Dummy. Siapa Dummy? Liat aja sendiri deh hehe. Efek dan suaranya ok walau tidak special. Rada gak yakin, kayaknya armornya itu CGI deh. Tapi asik banget pas liat dia terbang. Klimaksnya juga seru walau tidak memorable. Kalo ceritanya rada kurang kuat si, overall sebagai film pembuka summer tahun ini, Iron Man boleh dibilang berhasil. Kita tunggu kiprahnya di box office minggu depan. Stan Lee seperti biasa muncul sebagai cameo. Pas dia muncul, penonton pada tepuk tangan. Ooohh seterkenal itu ternyata pencipta komik-komik laris ini hehe. Kabarnya bakal ada cameo Bruce Banner disini, entah pemerannya atau referensinya, tapi sampe akhir film kok gak liat ya. Mungkin aku kelewatan, atau cuma gosip ya? Memasang 3 artis langganan nominasi awards (Jeff Bridges/Stane, Gwyneth Paltrow/Potts, Terence Howard/Rhodes) tidak membuat Robert Downey Jr. tenggelam. Bisa jadi karena dia tokoh utamanya. Cuma kok rada ketuaan ya si Downey ini sebagai Tony Stark. Chemistry antara Tony dan Potts bolehlah, cuma kurang banyak porsinya. Oya rada disayangkan pas adegan di Afghanistan tidak semua diberi subtitle. My Rating : 7/10.

Robert Downey Jr. fittingly opens “Iron Man” with a cocktail in hand and all the arrogance in the world. As the story goes, his conceit is indeed respected as Earth is his oyster both for the playing and for the taking. With the American marketing machine in full effect for 2008’s first summer blockbuster, the inaugural one lives up to the buildup.

“Iron Man” has already not only etched itself the mark of the first indisputable blockbuster of 2008 and one of the best-reviewed films so far in 2008 but also one of the highest-rated superhero movies of all time – yes, of all time. The film deserves every million it makes.

Even before he’s Iron Man, Downey Jr. is authentically transformative as the lush, cash-flushed, comedic, all-powerful and all-knowing Tony Stark.

Even those who aren’t fans of the comic series and just enjoy quality entertainment will fall prey to his allure and the blockbuster power of the film in general.

Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts – Stark’s assistant who keeps him functioning and even remembers his social security number for him – is indeed the subservient, selfless character she’s written to be. Earth: Film Dokumenter karya 5 Tahun Penjelajahan. Film ini maju tanpa cerita bodoh seekor beruang, ikan paus atau gajah. Lantas, seperti apa ceritanya?

Inilah sebuah film yang mengedepankan kehidupan damai hewan liar di bumi yang indah ini. Earth. Sebuah film yang dirancang untuk anak-anak seumuran kita yang belum sempet menjelajahi keindahan bumi.

Begitu setidaknya keinginan sutradara Alastair Fothergill yang ngebesut nih film. Di tengah gencarnya isu pemanasan global, beberapa sutradara yang concern dengan topik tersebut mengangkatnya ke film.

Pernah nonton film An Inconvenient Truth? Itu lho film yang dibintangi aktivis lingkungan Al Gore. Nah, Earth sendiri rada beda.

Alastair Fothergill menyajikan gambar-gambar indah yang nggak pernah kita sangka sebelumnya. Itulah keuntungannya! Mata kita akan dimanjakan oleh gambar-gambar super-oke. Shot yang selama ini belum pernah ditampilkan dalam film mana pun!

Di balik keindahan itu, Earth sebenarnya ingin menyampaikan pesan tentang perubahan yang udah terjadi di bumi ini.Terutama tentang rapuhnya ekosistem dan kehancuran ekologi yang diakibatkan oleh perubahan iklim. Tapi pesan itu dibuat secara tersirat oleh sang sutradara.

Fokusnya adalah, bagaimana perjuangan binatang-binatang dalam menghadapi perubahan alam. Dan dengan narasi yang dibawakan sama Patrick Stewart (pemeran Charles Xavier di X-Men), film produksi BBC ini jadi tambah enak buat ditonton.

Lantas, siapa aja jagoan di film ini? Ada tiga mahluk dengan tiga alam yang berbeda. Tempat tinggalnya pun nggak sama. Mulai dari dinginnya salju Kutub Utara, panasnya gurun pasir, dan gelapnya kehidupan di dalam laut disatukan dalam film inspiratif ini. Udah bisa nebak?

Tiga jagoan yang dikisahkan dalam film berdurasi 90 menit ini adalah beruang kutub asal Artik Kutub Utara. Gajah di Kalahari, Afrika dan ikan paus bungkuk, yang hobinya mengembara.

Kehidupan mereka di alam yang makin tinggi kadar polusinya ini jadi hal yang menarik buat disimak. Gimana nggak? Hidup ketiga mahluk itu memang tergantung banget sama keadaan iklim dunia yang cepat berubah. Apalagi saat ini mereka harus berganti cara hidup dan kebiasaan gara-gara efek global warming.

Ujung-ujungnya film ini juga ngingetin manusia buat lebih peduli dan menghargai alam. Tapi tentunya tanpa kesan yang menggurui.

Nggak cuma tiga jagoan dengan habitatnya aja yang diangkat oleh Alastair Fothergill. Ada sangat banyak tempat di bumi ini yang dijadikan lokasi syuting dokumenter ini. Bayangin aja, Alastair dan timnya keliling ke 26 negara yang meliputi 200 tempat untuk keperluan pengambilan gambar!

Itu belum seberapa. Mau tau pengerjaan film ini berapa lama? Yang pasti bukan dalam hitungan bulan. Waktu yang diperlukan untuk pengambilan gambar ini lebih dari lima tahun atau sekitar 4.500 hari!

Proses yang panjang dan melelahkan ini nggak bisa dihindari lagi. Apa yang dilakukan binatang-binatang di film ini harus diikutin terus perkembangannya. Lagi pula nggak ada yang bisa ngelawan alam, kan. Mau nggak mau seluruh kru pun mesti bekerjasama supaya nggak terjadi hal-hal yang nggak diinginkan.

Dalam film ini dibutuhin 40 orang kameramen untuk menghasilkan gambar-gambar yang amazing. Untuk itu para kru harus berani menempuh risiko. Bahaya bisa mengintai kapan aja tuh. Apalagi mereka juga harus hidup di habitat yang berbeda-beda ngikutin “jagoan” kita. Hidup dengan iklim yang berganti-ganti bukan hal mudah kan?

AUGUST RUSH (2007)

August Rush adalah sebuah film drama bercerita tentang "Mozart, the child prodigy zaman sekarang", yang terpisah dari kedua orangtuanya dan tinggal di sebuah panti asuhan dengan penuh harapan bahwa suatu saat orang-tuanya akan menemukannya. Meski merupakan film yang sifatnya mystically romantic dan penuh dengan sentuhan fairy-tales element, film ini adalah sebuah film keluarga yang baik ditonton.

August Rush bukan hanya film drama, tapi sekaligus film musikal yang musiknya ditata sangat bagus dan menampilkan music dengan berbagai jenis, mulai dari classic, jazz, rock, soul, techno, latin dll., membuat film ini kaya dan imaginative ketika sound dan musiknya itu masuk ke telinga kita. Macam-macam jenis music yang ditampilkan, menunjukkan bahwa semua jenis music itu indah dan semuanya layak mendapat apresiasi.

Di Film August Rush, Anda tidak hanya disuguhi cerita yang bagus, original, tetapi juga sajian music experimental yang baik ditonton untuk para musisi dan pecinta music. Bagaimana sebuah gitar dimainkan bagai sebuah perkusi, dan juga menampilkan guitar tapping technique yang pasti bakal membuat para pemain guitar berdecak kagum. Anda juga menikmati drums loops mengimitasi bunyi-bunyian kereta dan hiruk-pikuk apapun yang ada di sebuah kota yang sibuk. Kita juga dapat mendengar suara Jonathan Rhys Meyers, aha rupanya dia juga pandai bernyanyi, plus suara yang punya karakter. Menjadi seorang penyanyi tenar bukan sekedar perlu modal suara bagus, tetapi perlu juga menampilkan suaranya itu in the unique way.

Evan Taylor (Freddie Highmore), adalah seorang anak yang lahir diluar rencana dari pasangan musisi, pemain cello yang cantik, Lyla Novacek (Keri Russell) dan penyanyi dari sebuah rock band asal Irlandia, Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Evan adalah hasil dari pertemuan mereka semalam di San Francisco, dan karena nasip, mereka terpisah. Dalam keadaan hamil, Lyla mendapat kecelakaan. Ayah Lyla yang merasa anak gadisnya belum siap berkeluarga, maka ia memakai kesempatan ini untuk mengelabuhinya bahwa bayi yang dikandungnya itu mati, dan menyerahkan bayi Evan ini untuk diadopsi.

Di dalam panti-asuhan, seperti anak-anak yang lainnya, Evan adalah anak yang mendambakan kehadiran orang-tua. Bedanya, ia mencari jejak orang-tuanya dengan music, ketika ada saat dia hendak dikirimkan kepada orang-tua yang hendak mengadopsi anak oleh seorang Social Service worker, Richard Jeffries (Terrence Howard, yang berkarakter simpatik di film ini). Namun, Evan mendadak hilang di tengah keramaian kota New York. Bakat Evan ditemukan oleh seorang preman jalanan yang membina anak-anak pengamen, Maxwell 'Wizard' Wallace (Robin Williams), ia mengatakan kepada Evan "You got to love music more than you love food. More than life. More than yourself!". Oleh Wizard, Evan diberi nama professional "August Rush", sebuah nama yang diambil secara random dari sebuah tulisan di body sebuah truck yang sedang lewat.

Ketika ada suatu kejadian, polisi menangkapi para gelandangan anak-anak, Evan lari dan nasib membawa Evan ke sebuah gereja, di dalam gereja itu Evan melihat seorang gadis kecil yang bernama Hope (Jamia Simone Nash) yang menyanyi dengan sangat bagus bersama anggota koor gereja itu. Kemudian mereka saling kenal, dan Hope mengajari Evan mengenal notasi music dan piano. Dengan bakat alam yang luar biasa, Evan mampu memainkan piano, menulis notasi music dan memainkan organ klais yang terdapat di gereja itu, sang pendeta melihat bakat Evan ini dan mengirimkannya ke sebuah sekolah music bergengsi di New York Juilliard School. Di sinilah Maestro cilik ini dibina menjadi seorang musisi sebenarnya.

Sementara itu, Lyla sang ibu yang tinggal di kota Chicago, akhirnya mendapat pengakuan dari ayahnya bahwa bayi yang dilahirkan Lyla dahulu sebenarnya tidak mati. Maka, Lyla bergegas kembali ke New York untuk mencari anaknya. Lyla bertemu Mr. Jeffries dan mendapat kabar bahwa anaknya telah hilang entah kemana, Lyla memutuskan tinggal di New York dan kembali bergabung dengan The New York Philharmonic sambil melakukan pencarian anaknya.

Di lain pihak, sang ayah, Louis Connelly, semenjak pertemuannya dengan Lyla 11 tahun yang lalu tak henti-hentinya mencari jejak pujaan hatinya dan membuat ia tetap tinggal di San Francisco, ia tidak pernah menyadari kalau ia sudah menjadi ayah. Kemudian, ia menemukan alamat Lyla di Chicago, dan mendapati kabar yang salah dan mengira bahwa Lyla sudah menikah. Melihat kenyataan ini Louis enggan kembali ke San Francisco, dan ia memilih New York dan kemudian memutuskan kembali bergabung dengan abangnya dalam Rock Band, sebagai lead vocal dan guitarist di band itu.

Evan yang telah menjadi seorang composser karena pendidikannya di Juilliard School, atas kemampuannya yang luar biasa ini, ia diberi kesempatan untuk menampilkan karyanya dalam sebuah symphony orchestra yang akan ditampilkan di Central Park di kota New York itu. Namun kesempatan ini hampir tak terlaksana karena ganguan dari Wizard yang mengklaim bahwa dia adalah ayah dari Evan, perbuatannya ini didasari karena ia ingin "make money" dari bakat musisi cilik ini.

Di sebuah taman kota di New York Louis bertemu dengan Evan, Louis mengagumi bakat music Evan, mereka bercakap-cakap dan bermain guitar bersama, namun mereka tidak mengenali satu sama lain. Evan memperkenalkan dirinya kepada Louis dengan nama "August Rush" dan mengatakan ia akan memimpin sebuah orchestra dan tampil di Central Park, dan mengatakan penampilannya ini terancam batal karena Wizard tidak setuju. Louis memberikan semangat agar Evan tetap tampil pada pertunjukan itu, "Come on. Be brave. You never quit on your music. No matter what happens. Coz anytime something bad happens to you, that's the one place you can escape to and just let it go. I learned it the hard way. And anyway, look at me. Nothing bad's gonna happen. You gotta have a little faith. ".

Ternyata pertunjukan di Central Park itu juga menampilkan sang ibu, Lyla Novacek yang bermain Cello bersama The New York Philharmonic. Di sebuah pertunjukan music, keluarga yang terpisah itu bersatu. Harapan Evan sang komposer cilik itu tercapai, bahwa dengan music ia dapat memanggil kedua orang-tuanya untuk datang dan menemukannya. Film garapan sutradara perempuan asal Irlandia Kirsten Sheridan ini pasti akan menggugah emosi para ibu. Ketika sebuah pesawat Predator mendarat hancur di kota Colorado. Aliens di kapal itu lari kabur dan membunuh semua predator kecuali satu. Satu-satunya predator ini harus menghancurkam semua alien-alien yang hebat seperti yang pernah muncul di film pertamanya. Sementara penduduk kota yang tidak dapat melakukan apa-apa melihat pertarungan antara 2 mahluk mistik yang luar biasa. Perang pun berlanjut dari film pertamanya.

Two Predators load several live Alien facehuggers and his dead comrade onto a ship, intending to return to the Predator homeworld. Unbeknown to him, the dead comrade was impregnated with an Alien before dying. The alien bursts from the corpse's chest, then quickly grows into a Predator-Alien hybrid (Tom Woodruff, Jr). The hybrid attacks the crew, killing them and forcing the ship to crash land in Gunnison, Colorado. Before one of the Predators is killed, he sends a distress call to the homeworld. His message is received by a Predator warrior (Ian Whyte) who immediately embarks on the journey to earth to rectify the situation. So, how about AVP 2 ? .... Simpy said, its garink abis ... tegang enggak, actionnya memorable enggak, ceritanya menarik juga enggak .... malah kebanyakan bumbu2 cerita ala sinetron imho ... cowok loser, jagoan yg baru dateng ke village tsb., ...... yah, boleh2 aja sih si filmmaker mo nambah unsur humanis di film ini .. tapi ya, penonton kan pasti nggak mengharapkan itu ... dari judulnya aja pasti yg diharapkan adalah kiprah sang predator dan para alien ...

Cuma satu fighting scene yg oke, saat si predator memainkan gadget2nya menhadapi serbuan alien di gorong2 ... tapi itupun kurang mantep ... sisanya? ga jelas fightingnya, fighting scenenya ikut2an pake gaya Batman Begins .. close-up shot dan kamera bergerak ngalor ngidul ampe ga kliatan siapa yg dipukul siapa yg mukul .. ditambah settingnya di tempat gelap dan sosok kedua monsternya hampir sama ..... padahal gue mo liat sosok si predalien .. hybrid antara predator & alien ... ternyata cuma gitu thok ...
.. Hollywood semakin lama semakin garink nih klo buat film ... klo dibanding film2 action jaman dulu payah deh ... padahal teknologi visual effect jaman sekarang dah jauhh di atas .... mungkin karena dimanja teknologi ini maka produser mengesampingkan sisi kekuatan cerita, mutu koreografi action scene dan penyutradaraan .....

It's a debate that has raged on playgrounds for decades: who could take whom in a fight, Batman versus Superman? The Hulk versus Thor? Strawberry Shortcake versus She-Ra, Princess of Power? Now some of the same kids who once argued over such schoolyard trivialities have grown up and run movie studios, which explains how we end up with pictures like Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, the second feature to pit the rasta-haired intergalactic bounty hunters that took on Arnold Schwarzenegger against the penis-headed space lizards that drove Sigourney Weaver to a fiery grave. You might be wondering why this particular grudge match requires two movies to resolve and the short answer is that it doesn't. But because the first film cleared $170 million worldwide, we're being treated to a second round anyway.

The good news is that Requiem is a leaner, more efficient picture than its excruciatingly dull predecessor, in which the title characters didn't even face off for the first time until the 60-minute mark. Incoming directors Colin and Greg Strause, making their feature debut after lengthy careers as F/X supervisors on such titles as Galaxy Quest and 300, understand that they are making a shlocky B-movie and, in fact, the film is modeled after drive-in staples like The Blob and It Came From Outer Space where the citizens of a small town are menaced by invading aliens in silly costumes. In this case, the small town is Crested Butte, Colorado, and the citizens are the usual stock types, including the clueless local sheriff (John Ortiz), the ex-con trying to go straight (Steven Pasquale), the dorky teenager (Johnny Lewis) and his much hotter love interest (Kristen Hager). Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is not so much a movie as much as it is a series of blurs and shapes moving quickly across a screen. People might enjoy it more if it were run out of focus, because then they might be able to blame shoddy theater management for hiring an inept projectionist instead of realizing they just threw down too much money (anything over a dollar is too much in this case, by the way) to watch a movie by people who don't know how to make a movie.

There's not a specific element of this movie I especially hate; it's kind of a collective thing. The characters are less than cardboard cutouts, existing solely to be killed after spouting a line or two of clichés. The creatures, once genuinely scary (the aliens) or sort of cool (the predators), are reduced to screeching blurs or barely lit silhouettes that are not scary, cool, or, in a lot of cases, even visible. Speaking of bad lighting, the whole movie seems to have been lit by lighting bug behind a foggy window, and don't get me started on the editing, which makes it impossible not only to follow the action but also to realize that there is anything resembling action happening on screen. MIRACLE (2007)

Sinopsis:

Siswa-siswi kelas 3 suatu SMU akan berdarmawisata. Beberapa menit sebelum berangkat, Kinar (Keira Shabira), siswi kelas 3 Sosial 1, mendapat penglihatan kalau bis kelas mereka akan kecelakaan dan terbakar. Kinar berusaha memperingatkan teman-teman dan guru tapi tidak digubris.

Kinar malah diseret turun oleh ketua angkatan, Satyo (Lian Firman) dan wali kelas, Pak Irawan (Robertino). Kaka (Andry Ilham), sahabat Satyo ikutan turun, tapi ia melarang Elisa (Audrey) pacarnya untuk turun. Selain itu masih ada Ago (Dhitra Marfie), Tania (Lady Veronica), Mey (Nadilla Ernesta) dan Aldi (Wishnu Wijaya) yang akhirnya turun karena suatu alasan. Bis kelas itu berangkat duluan, sedangkan mereka yang turun, rencananya dinaikkan ke bis untuk guru. Bis kelas 3 Sosial 1 itu ternyata mengalami kecelakaan seperti penglihatan Kinar.

Semuanya mati...Delapan orang yang turun selamat; Satyo, Pak Irawan, Kaka, Ago, Tania, Mey, Aldi dan Kinar sendiri... Tapi ternyata kematian tidak berhenti begitu saja. Satu persatu mereka mati. Diawali oleh Kaka, Pak Irawan dan Tania... Kinar berhasil memecahkan teka-teki kalau kematian itu berurutan dari huruf awal nama membentuk suatu kalimat: KITA MATI... Kaka, Irawan, Tania...berikutnya Ago atau bisa jadi Aldi...itu membentuk kata KITA... MATI dari huruf awal nama empat orang lainnya, Mey dan Aldi, lantas huruf T dan I? Padahal yang tersisa tinggal Kinar dan Satyo. Ternyata Kinar punya panggilan nama Inar, sedangkan Satyo biasa dipanggil Tyo... Berarti KITA MATI: Kaka, Irawan, Tania, Aldi, Mey, Ago, Tyo, Inar... Huruf awalan A yang mati berikutnya adalah Aldi. Bukan Ago.

Mereka yang tersisa percaya akan rancangan kematian itu. Mereka berempat: Mey, Ago, Satyo dan Kinar malah menantang kematian dan berencana menggagalkan rancangan kematian... Mereka malah menuju tempat, seperti tujuan mereka saat kecelakaan bis waktu itu yakni sebuah penginapan di puncak. Karena bila mereka ditakdirkan mati, maka mereka tidak akan pernah benar-benar sampai ke tujuan. Mobil yang dikendarai Ago kecelakaan di tengah jalan, mereka terpaksa menginap di sebuah rumah tua...dan teror dimulai... Dapatkah mereka berempat selamat? Lalu bagaimana dengan tokoh misterius Imas (Intan Ayu Purnama)? Apa hubungannya dengan rancangan kematian KITA MATI?.

Kabarnya 'Miracle', karya ke empat Helfi Kardit setelah 'Seventeen' (2005), 'Bangku Kosong' (2006) dan 'Lantai 13' (2007), mengambil inspirasi dari film Hollywood yang berjudul 'Final Destination' (1999). Berkisah tentang seseorang yang tiba-tiba bisa melihat ke masa depan dan keluar dari kematian yang akan menjeput. Sayangnya, kematian itu sendiri pada akhirnya akan tiba juga, hanya saja dengan dua kali lebih kejam.

Rasanya dengan premis seperti itu mau tidak mau Kardit harus mengakui jika ia mengambil ide dari film besutan James Wong tersebut, jika tidak mau disebut plagiat atau copy cat. Sayangnya, ia tidak menyebutkan jika filmnya ini pun menyadur ide dari film Thailand yang berjudul 'Letters of Death' (2006)!

Ya, selain berjalan cerita mirip sekali dengan 'Final Destination' ia menambahkan twist dengan adanya pola yang memakai inisial nama korban yang kemudian membentuk suatu kata, yang bisa juga menjadi petunjuk. Belum lagi dengan adanya sosok psycho diujung cerita. Ini menujukkan betapa keringnya ide Kardit dalam membuat film dengan idenya sendiri.

Skrip yang ditanganinya bersama Anggoro bermaksud untuk menjadi trailer yang menegangkan, dimana pada awalnya film memang terasa cukup menegangkan dan rasanya progresi cerita akan menarik untuk diikuti. Namun, menjelang pertengahan unsur tegang tadi hilang entah kemana dan cerita menjadi terasa absurd dan mengada-ngada serta sangat menghina intelejensia para penontonnya dengan banyaknya lubang di dalam cerita, dan hingga diakhiri dengan klimaks yang anti-klimaks jika tidak mau dikatakan konyol.

Berbicara konyol, entah apa yang ada di benak Kardit saat ia melakukan kasting untuk pemain-pemain utamanya. Semuanya bermain dengan sangat mentah dan annoying, sehingga kita berharap jika mereka mati saja semuanya. Karakter-karakternya pun sama sekali tidak menarik apalagi membuat penonton dapat merelasikan dengan ketakutan mereka.

Namun kelemahan terbesar, selain skrip dan kasting, adalah eksekusi dari Kardit itu sendiri. Dengan menggunakan teknik kamera hand held dia berusaha untuk menangkap ketegangan dengan secara lebih realistis. Namun, rasanya ia masih belum bisa membangun ketegangan yang diperlukan untuk teknik seperti itu dan malah membuat film terasa amatiran. Dan penggunaan hand held bukan alasan utama dari lemahnya eksekusi Kardit, melainkan penggarapan secara jeneral, film memang terasa kurang matang.

Ok, mungkin ia bisa memakai alasan bujet yang rendah untuk menafikan kelemahan-kelemahan dalam film ini. Akan tetapi, jika ia memang berbakat, dengan bujet seperti bagaimanapun ia seharusnya bisa membuat film yang jenial!

Hasil akhirnya, menonton 'Miracle' seperti menyaksikan salah satu episode dari sinetron-sinetron atau FTV di televisi. Rasanya film ini memang lebih pantas dirilis televisi atau setidaknya direct-to-video, karena terus terang saja, terasa mubazir saat menyaksikanya di layar bioskop.

By the way, kredit lebih harus ditujukan untuk Michael Tju yang mendisain posternya, karena terus terang alasan utama saya untuk menyaksikan film ini adalah posternya yang rasanya cukup komunikatif dan "menjual". But, like peoples said, don't judge book by its cover. Hm, I should listen. :((

QUICKIE EXPRESS (2007)

Synopsis (in Bahasa) :
Jojo (Tora Sudiro), pemuda yang selalu melakukan kecerobohan, sehingga ia berulangkali dipecat dari pekerjaan-pekerjaannya. Suatu saat, ia bertemu seorang ‘Pemburu’ bernama Mudakir (Tino Saroengallo), dan dengan terpaksa, ia menerima tawaran Mudakir untuk bekerja pada sebuah restoran pizza yang sebenarnya hanya kedok sebuah perusahaan layanan male escort atau penyedia gigolo. Jojo pun mengikuti rangkaian pelatihan untuk menjadi seorang gigolo. Di tempat itu ia bertemu dengan Piktor (Lukman Sardi), yang selalu melafalkan abjad P dengan F, dan Marley (Amink), rasta yang secara fisik sebenarnya tidak layak untuk menjadi seorang gigolo. Dari situ, cerita sulit dan senang dari berbagai sisi kehidupan mereka bertiga bergulir.

Barusan itu adalah sebuah joke - yang enggak lucu.

Kenapa nggak lucu?

Karena dari awalnya udah ketebak akan gimana akhirnya. Umumnya lelucon yang dinilai lucu adalah yang menyimpan kejutan. Kalo kejutan itu udah ketebak dari awal, leluconnya jadi nggak lucu.

Problem yang sama dialami oleh film "Quickie Express"

Film ini menceritakan pengalaman tiga orang gigolo: Jojo (Tora S), Marley (Aming) dan Piktor (Lukman S). Mereka bergabung di sebuah 'perusahaan jasa' gigolo yang menyamar jadi restoran pizza.

Sebelum jadi gigolo, Jojo sempet kerja jadi petugas cleaning service. Di hari pertama kerja Jojo dikasih pengarahan oleh bossnya "ingat ya, kalo ngepel, obat pel-nya cukup satu takaran saja, sebab kalo lebih dari satu maka lantai akan jadi licin."

Pengarahan itu diulang-ulang oleh si boss, yang lantas meninggalkan Jojo kerja sendiri. Maka adegan selanjutnya adalah.... (pastinya bisa nebak dong).

Tempat kerja Jojo adalah sebuah supermarket yang sedang menggelar program diskon 70%. Calon pembeli udah ngantri di luar toko, nggak sabar ingin borong, tapi pintu toko masih terkunci. Jojo ngepel toko, lantas membuka pintu. Calon pembeli menyerbu masuk. Maka adegan selanjutnya adalah.... (pastinya bisa nebak dong).

Singkat cerita, setelah beralih profesi beberapa kali, akhirnya Jojo terbujuk untuk kerja sebagai gigolo. Tapi... yah begitulah, adegan demi adegan yang sepertinya sih diniatkan untuk mengundang tawa, berlalu tanpa kesan karena udah pada ketebak duluan arahnya. Bahkan kemunculan Roy Tobing* sebagai 'trainer' para calon gigolo terjebak dalam lelucon paling basi dalam perfilman Indonesia yaitu: bertingkah kebanci-bancian. Apa dikiranya penonton belum bosen ya, ngetawain banci? Gue sih udah loh. Kita cari obyek ketawaan yang lain aja yuk, wahai para pembuat film Indonesia...

Kondisi jalan cerita yang serba ketebak masih bertahan terus sampai Jojo cs mulai menjalankan profesinya sebagai gigolo. Masing-masing ketemu klien yang aneh-aneh, mengingatkan para film Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. Klien-nya Jojo, misalnya. Wanita cantik bersuara berat. Mereka janjian ketemu di sebuah restoran. Baru ngobrol sebentar, si klien permisi ke kamar mandi. Saat si klien pergi, pelayan mendekati Jojo, berusaha ngasih tau bahwa si wanita tersebut sebenarnya adalah...(pastinya bisa nebak dong).

Karena sebuah insiden di bar, Jojo kenalan dengan cewek bernama Lila (diperankan pendatang baru Sandra Dewi) trus naksir trus pacaran. Di saat yang bersamaan, Jojo punya klien bernama tante Mona (Ira Maya Sopha). Pada suatu hari, Lila mengundang Jojo ke rumahnya untuk dikenalkan dengan orang tuanya. Ternyata orang tua Lila adalah... (pastinya bisa nebak dong).

Marley beli 40 ekor ikan yang kata penjualnya sih ikan Lohan tapi tampangnya sama sekali nggak mirip ikan Lohan. Ternyata ikan-ikan itu sebenarnya adalah.... (pastinya bisa nebak dong). Dan karena nggak tau, Marley mandi di bathtub bareng seekor ikannya dan akhirnya digigit di bagian...(pastinya bisa nebak dong).

Begitulah, joke - joke basi gantian muncul di layar, selang - seling dengan joke 'dewasa' (baca: cabul) seputar alat kelamin. Kondisi diperparah ketika menjelang akhir, sekonyong-konyong ceritanya ingin 'berbobot' dengan konflik-konflik yang kurang penting dan maksa abis.

Kalo diliat dari riwayat karirnya, sutradara Dimas Djayadiningrat masih belum bisa lepas dari kegemarannya mengutak-atik gambar sehingga terlihat artistik tapi kelupaan ngurus cerita sehingga ngambang - seperti yang dia lakukan pada Tusuk Jelangkung. Mungkin sebaiknya dia fokus aja deh bikin video klip seperti dulu.

Tora dan Aming berakting persis seperti penampilan mereka di Extravaganza. Abis mau gimana lagi, ceritanya aja garing gini. Bahkan Lukman Sardi yang biasanya berakting cemerlang di sini nampak janggal dengan kegagapannya melafalkan huruf 'p' dan 'f/v' yang terlihat sangat nggak natural banget deh. Sedangkan si pendatang baru Sandra Dewi itu nggak memberikan andil yang berarti terhadap jalan cerita kecuali dalam bentuk tampil mulus berkilauan dan mengucapkan dialog2 yang 'cewek banget' dalam suara tikus** yang bikin para penonton pria ingin punya nomer HPnya, seperti "Yah... kita nggak jadi ketemuan ya... sedih deh..."

Untungnya masih ada Ira Maya Sopha yang tampil meyakinkan sebagai tante-tante horny, juga Tio Pakusadewo yang bikin gue pangling dalam wig ajaibnya sebagai Mateo. Kedua orang ini membuat gue ikhlas memberikan dua bintang, setelah nyaris ngasih satu. Oh iyam nilai plus juga buat gambarnya yang artistik dan penggarapan settingnya yang serius banget.

It has been a while for Indonesian audience to enjoy this kind of movie, a sexually-packed-comedy, since the dynamic trio Warkop DKI's movies. No wonder that the director of this movie said that this movie is a tribute to Warkop. And following the Warkop tradition, spiced up with a good and intelligent script, you have a guarantee of a full ride of laughter along the movie.

Overall, sex is the main theme of this movie; it's a movie about gigolo. Some will think that it resembles Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo, with Indonesian style. In my opinion, they are quite different, since they have different tone as well as story line. And for most Indonesian viewer, this film is one of the most sexually explicit movies, so please keep it out of reach from children.

The weak part of this movie, if I have to mention one, is that it is kind of losing momentum in the middle, which has been build up superbly by the trio since the beginning of the movie. The script concentrates to much on building the story rather than maintaining the laugh. Maybe it is indeed a difficult choice for the writer to pick whether to entertain the audience further and risking to lose the story line.

I personally give my credit to Lukman Sardi, he succeeded again. I think he is one of the most promising actors, among the young actors in Indonesia.

Just like the title of this movie; it's a quickie. Just enjoy it. I came, I watched and laughed, I went home. It doesn't need to be digested further and inspire you. So, just enjoy it, and you won't be disappointed.

Namun, saat bulan madu mereka di Meksiko yang cerah, Lila menampakkan sifatnya yang buruk dan Eddie menemui Miranda, wanita yang ia yakini adalah belahan jiwanya. Eddie harus menjauhkan istrinya yang semakin mengerikan saat ia mencoba merayu gadis impiannya.

Yang menarik dari film ini adalah, alur ceritanya dibangun dengan latar belakang yang kuat. Kenapa tokoh Eddie yang tadinya takut kawin bisa 'berani' mengawini orang yang baru dia kenal selama 6 minggu, kenapa Miranda bisa nggak tau bahwa Eddie udah beristri, dan kenapa Lila bisa nggak tau Eddie pacaran lagi sama orang lain di tengah bulan madu mereka - semua dikasih latar belakang yang menurut gue cukup logis.

Selain itu, yang juga gue suka dari film ini adalah: semua tokohnya adalah 'manusia biasa'. Nggak tokoh yang dipaksakan jadi super bego, super culas, atau super gila untuk memancing tawa penonton. Semuanya adalah sosok-sosok yang biasa aja, yang mungkin kita temui dalam kehidupan nyata. Keadaan lah yang bkin mereka terlibat dalam situasi yang menggelikan - sebagaimana layaknya sebuah sitcom.
Lagipula, memang adegan2 dalam film ini nggak seluruhnya dirancang untuk memancing penonton ketawa, kok. Yang ada malah pentonton diajak ikutan introspeksi, bila mereka berada dalam situasi yang sama, apa yang akan mereka lakukan?

Catatan khusus buat Malin Akerman yang dengan sukses berubah drastis dari cewek menggiurkan di awal film, jadi makhluk menjijikkan di tengah film. Mudah-mudahan setelah ini dia dapet peran-peran yang lebih menjanjikan.

Yang terakhir, film ini gue suka karena sampe adegan terakhir gue nggak bisa nebak akan gimana endingnya. Bahkan sampe beberapa detik menjelang film selesai, masih ada satu kejutan lagi buat penonton.

Memang tetep ada beberapa adegan yang sedikit dilebih-lebihkan, tapi secara umum ini film yang memuaskan gue - baik secara emosional maupun rasional , sehingga dia layak dapet 5 bintang. Film yang sangat gue rekomendasikan untuk ditonton untuk semua orang, kecuali ya itu tadi... bagi para jomblo!

The Farrelly brothers hooked us all with "There's Something about Mary".

It's been downhill ever since. Can anyone say "Me, Myself and Irene?"

Are dildo jokes really that funny if you've already graduated from 8th grade?

Dark, unfunny, and yet still somehow predictable. The worst of all worlds.

It seems that Stiller's tired old schtick and the lack of new ideas from the Farrelly brothers is causing them to reach to new levels of grotesque disgust. Count me out. It's like listening to the degenerate in the back of the room in 7th grade who keeps making lewder jokes to get your attention, and after high school goes to prison.

The Heartbreak Kid is an average comedy with moments of hilarity, but more moments of blah. Co-writers/directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly revived the gross out humor that has become more commonplace in comedies over the last 10 years, but The Heartbreak Kid shows they have been surpassed by the next generation of outrageous comedy auteurs, led by Judd Apatow, who has added some heart and soul to the craziness in ways the Farrellys want to in this movie, but fall short in doing so.

You can feel the Farrellys and the other co-writers (Scot Armstrong, Leslie Dixon and Kevin Barnett, based on the screenplay by Neil Simon, who I’m sure never intended to include bestiality in the final product like we have here) struggling to give Eddie some justifiable reasons for dumping his newlywed bride, and attempting to light a spark between the groom and this new Miranda girl, but it was hard to find something resembling chemistry and excitement in that part of the story, and it’s even harder to care for Eddie’s plight because he’s being duplicitous with his new wife, and the woman he supposedly cares about. Because of these failures, the audience is supposed to take most plot twists for granted because the writers want them to happen in the story, rather than make us feel it in our hearts and brains. It's too hard to root for a guy who is acting this way, especially a fortysomething with gray hair who should know better.

Worst of all, The Heartbreak Kid feels like a 90-minute movie stretched out to 2 hours for no good reason. The Farrellys take much too long with every aspect of the movie from the original courtship between Lila and Eddie to all of the troubles that pop up on the honeymoon to the rambling developing love between Miranda and Eddie, which isn’t very compelling. Carlos Mencia shows up in a meaningless role that could have been one good funny cameo, instead of several scenes that are hit and miss, while Jerry Stiller kind of feels out of place and a bit forced as the foulmouthed, wild man father.

The audience gets some very funny shocking bits, but they are few and far between. For most of the film, you feel like everyone is kind of going through the motions trying to find what would be shocking, and completely miscalculating what would be sweet. Stick around through the credits for a couple additional scenes, but these just ruin the good last scene which would have left the audience walking out of the theater with a better laugh.
