We have read and watched so many versions of this classic story, made into children's story books and major motion pictures. Now, a romantic drama wrapped in a modern mermaid fairy tale is again presented in a motion picture: Ondine.
This story tells about a fisherman named Irish Syracuse (Colin Farrell) who accidentally discovers a beautiful mysterious woman named Ondine (Alicja Bachleda), she was caught in his fishing net. Syracuse has a daughter, Annie who's sitting in a wheelchair, she believes that Ondine is actually a selkie, an Irish folklore creature for mermaid.
Ondine and Syracuse pass their days together and love cannot be avoided. However, the myth and the reality cannot stand side by side. The truth about Ondine is finally revealed.
Ondine is directed by Neil Jordan, director of the Oscar winning film The Crying Game in 1992. Ondine script is written by Neil Jordan. This Magnolia Pictures film production will be in theaters (America) starting on June 4, 2010.
