Jake Gyllenhaal Will Be the Prince of Persia

Jake Gyllenhaal Movie crossovers have been all the rage in Hollywood for a few years now. Comic books are being turned into high budget movies, like Spiderman and Iron Man, but a lot of games too are targeted for the movie treatment. Unfortunately, not many of the movies based on games have been really good so far. Just think of the Doom movie or of the recently released Postal movie of the
intrepid Uwe Boll.

New details are now available regarding the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie, which is based on the universe of the Prince of Persia trilogy made by Ubisoft. It seems that Jake Gyllenhaal is now confirmed as the actor who will play the role of the Prince, while Gemma Arterton, who is also set to star in the new Bond movie called Quantum of Solace, is set to play the role of a feisty yet very mysterious princess who also constitutes the main love interest of Jake's character. Tamina, which is the name the princess goes by, will apparently also feature prominently in the combat sequences of the film.

The plot of the movie will be only loosely based on the storyline of the Sands of Time videogames. There's so much content in the games that the people working on the script have admitted that it's a monumental task to adapt it into a screenplay.

Jerry Bruckheimer is the main producer of the project, while Disney is fronting the money for the movie. It seems that it will have a rather big budget, with filming being set to begin in Morroco and in Britain really soon.

The release of the movie is not scheduled to coincide with the release of the new title in the Prince of Persia franchise, which is to debut during this holiday season. The new game will take a turn away from the Sands of Time setting and will also bring cell shaded graphics to the series. Ubisoft says that the game is a reinvention of the Prince.
