Underwater Musical Game Educates Youngsters
Every now and then, it's really helpful to get some outside guidance regarding what you, as a human being, should do in order to keep
this old planet alive. Every now and then, a game is released to teach children these things - which is even better, because they are the future and they will probably have the thumbs up or down regarding Earth's future. Anyway... Portugal-based Gameinvest has announced that Aquatic Tales is in the works and promised it would teach the young (as well as the not-so-young if they decide to play the game) a few things about conserving our oceans.
Turning your screen into a living aquarium, Aquatic Tales will immerse players in an adventure where they will have to guide and protect a family of fish. Using intuitive controls (the stylus for the DS version, the Wiimote for the Wii and the good old mouse for the PC version), players will find out that everything can be nice and funny in the oceans if we care. The game also promises to promote the importance of family and teamwork, which makes it even a better option for the youngsters who keep playing, even though they shouldn't Halos and CODs and so on...
"Saving the environment is an important issue that we wanted to bring to audiences through a fun and engaging game," said Gameinvest founder and CEO Paulo Gomes. "Aquatic Tales includes important messages about preserving our oceans within an immersive and entertaining gaming experience."
The game will be released just in time to be purchased and offered as a holiday gift and it will be available on Nintendo DS and Wii consoles, as well as PC systems. And, even though I totally agree that even more educative games should exist and kids should learn that conserving and caring for our planet is something that really worth doing, I don't like one thing: the profit-chase. Release the game now, Mr. Developer, not before the holidays, when more people buy it just because they have to!

Jake Gyllenhaal Will Be the Prince of Persia
Movie crossovers have been all the rage in Hollywood for a few years now. Comic books are being turned into high budget movies, like Spiderman and Iron Man, but a lot of games too are targeted for the movie treatment. Unfortunately, not many of the movies based on games have been really good so far. Just think of the Doom movie or of the recently released Postal movie of the
intrepid Uwe Boll.
New details are now available regarding the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie, which is based on the universe of the Prince of Persia trilogy made by Ubisoft. It seems that Jake Gyllenhaal is now confirmed as the actor who will play the role of the Prince, while Gemma Arterton, who is also set to star in the new Bond movie called Quantum of Solace, is set to play the role of a feisty yet very mysterious princess who also constitutes the main love interest of Jake's character. Tamina, which is the name the princess goes by, will apparently also feature prominently in the combat sequences of the film.
The plot of the movie will be only loosely based on the storyline of the Sands of Time videogames. There's so much content in the games that the people working on the script have admitted that it's a monumental task to adapt it into a screenplay.
Jerry Bruckheimer is the main producer of the project, while Disney is fronting the money for the movie. It seems that it will have a rather big budget, with filming being set to begin in Morroco and in Britain really soon.
The release of the movie is not scheduled to coincide with the release of the new title in the Prince of Persia franchise, which is to debut during this holiday season. The new game will take a turn away from the Sands of Time setting and will also bring cell shaded graphics to the series. Ubisoft says that the game is a reinvention of the Prince.

PlayStation 3 Outselling the Xbox 360 in Australia
Sony is really pushing hard for numbers to prove that the PlayStation 3 is just as competitive as the Xbox 360 from Microsoft when it comes to gaming consoles sales. Recently, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, David Reeves, claimed that the absolute sales of the PlayStation 3 were better than those of the Xbox 360 on the European market, and now it seems
that good news on the sales issue is coming from Australia as well.
Sony Managing Director Michael Ephraim has talked to PALGN about the situation Down Under and he reckons that, even though Microsoft still has the lead in units sold, overall Sony can still catch up and overtake in the console race. Even if the Xbox 360 has achieved very good market penetration in English speaking territories in general, including North America and the United Kingdom, the Australian market is much more balanced. Ephraim thinks that at some point, "somewhere around the end of the year, if not sooner," the PlayStation 3 has a shot at overtaking the Microsoft made console.
Being able to claim victory over an entire continent would translate into a boost for Sony, even if we are talking about a rather small market, when compared to Europe, Japan or the United States. However, the numbers advanced by the Sony man are in-house estimates of sales, so there might be a bit of a difference between these and the numbers reported by some market watching analysts.
Ephraim said: "I can tell you in the first quarter of 2008 we have outsold Xbox 360 by around 45%. That is not including the Bravia deal, which moved through around 30,000 units, so if you add the Bravia deal to our global sales we have now, in the first quarter of 2008 we have outsold the Xbox 360 by two to one." Take that with a pinch of salt, if you will, but Australia seems like a good battleground for Sony, one where it is winning the "console war".

David Cook voted 'American Idol' winner session 7
The yowling rocker triumphed over the sensitive balladeer as this year's "American Idol."
Grunge-voiced David Cook took the prize over his twinkle-eyed rival David Archuleta by a margin of 12 million votes, according to host Ryan Seacrest.
Of the 97.5 million votes Seacrest claimed came rolling in, 56% went to Cook and 44% to Archuleta.
In a sense, Cook's victory came as a significant surprise. He walked into Wednesday night's show with a major disadvantage since rough judge Simon Cowell had practically anointed Archuleta the winner at Tuesday night's final performances, saying his singing scored a "knockout" against Cook.
While bookies were split on which David would triumph, some observers figured the supercute Archuleta had a leg up, since his fan base skews heavily toward screamy teens, a segment especially savvy in the ways of phone voting. Countertheories favored Cook, surmising that he drew from a wider demographic, embracing both young and old.
Either way, the battle between Archuleta and Cook represented one of the most stark contrasts in styles and sensibilities in "Idol's" seven-year history.
Even that drama did little to tweak ratings. While "Idol" remains the top-rated show on television by several million, average viewership was down from a peak of 26 million to 21 million this year.
Cowell himself had called the year's contestants "too safe." But he certainly couldn't call the top candidates too similar.
The younger David specialized in soft songs of sentimentality, the elder favored bolder rock flourishes, especially as contained in hand-me-down grunge ballads.
Archuleta stressed sincerity - Cook bravado. The former epitomized innocence, the latter, if-not-exactly experience, then at least a suggestion of adult awareness.
By contrast, the Mormon-born Archuleta seems almost startlingly free of experience. He's like a human Bambi, immune to cynicism and open to faith. Such a pristine character made Archuleta a perfect vehicle for the kinds of idealized ballads he favored week in and week out.
Moreover, Archuleta owns the more individual voice. Cook sounds like any number of mainstream rock singers in bands that wish they were Nirvana - from Nickelback to Daughtry.
For his part, Archuleta boasts a subtle rasp that shades his more boyish tones and gives him a hint of soul. Archuleta also connects to his material in a more probing way, taping into the darker well of feeling his doll-like visage obscures. In the end, he's both a better, and a rarer, singer than Cook.
Which means that - at least for this election - American voters got it dead wrong

Jordan Knight is glad to be a New Kid again
As you read this, there’s a good chance that Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood — aka the New Kids on the Block — are holed up a rehearsal studio somewhere, polishing up the dance moves for their long-awaited reunion tour, which hits arenas this fall, and hit the TODAY show on Friday.
If the image of five men in their late 30s facing a mirror and synchronizing the swoon-inducing steps that made them boy-band superstars in the late ’80s strikes you both comical and irresistible, imagine how they must feel.
“It was surreal at first,” admits Jordan Knight, the group’s de facto frontman, who in the years since the band’s break-up in 1994 has released three solo CDs, gotten married, fathered two children, and did time in VH-1’s “Surreal Life” house. “We had we talked about it a lot and I envisioned it, but when we first got in front of those mirrors and we all hit the move at the same time, it was like ‘Whoa!’” Knight lets out a self-deprecating chuckle, then proclaims, “The magic’s back, folks.”

Top 5 games that get you into character
Tired of being an accountant, a middle manager -- or even a journalist, for that matter? How about trying on the life of an elf or a superhero or perhaps try being a better, more exciting version of yourself?
Developers understand just how much gamers want to feel drawn into the virtual world. So many games offer the player the opportunity to shape the precise appearance and attributes of the character they control.
With that in mind, here are some of the games that do the best job helping us get into character.
'City of Heroes'
Just about everyone has fantasized about being a superhero at one time or another. But "City of Heroes" actually allows you to be one. Well, sort of.
In this massively multiplayer online role-playing game, you get to create a unique superhero from head to spandexed toe. The character creation system here not only allows you to customize the details of your hero's face and body, but you also get to tailor the costume and super abilities to your dream specifications.
Once you've created the hero you've always wanted to be, it's off to save the citizens of Paragon City from the forces of evil.
Mii Channel
One of the coolest things about Nintendo's new Wii console is the Mii Channel.
Here, you get to create a caricature of yourself – called a Mii – that then appears in games like "Wii Sports" and "Wii Play." With their big heads and small bodies, Miis are more cartoony than they are realistic... but that's half the fun.
Though creating your Mii is a simple process, it's easy to spend hours building your digital persona as you try to make your Mii look like you...or perhaps not anything like you at all.
'Saints Row'
So you want to live the gangster lifestyle but aren't too excited about ending up dead? In "Saints Row" you can let your inner gang-banger run free without worrying about all that nasty business of dying in a hail of bullets.
This Xbox 360 game (coming to the PS3 this year) lets you play the role of an up-and-coming hoodlum jumped into a gang known as the 3rd Street Saints. But before you start gunning for enemy crews, you must first customize the physical features of your character.
Here, you can tailor your skin color, hair style, the shape of your nose, chin and eyes and the look of your body. And since this game takes full advantage of the next-gen console power, the degree to which you can shape your character's appearance is uncanny.
'Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion'
It's easy to get lost in this epic fantasy role-playing. But first, you have to create yourself. Would you like to be a human, an elf or perhaps a cat-like Khajiit? Will you be a warrior, a monk or maybe a thief?
There are plenty of decisions to make as you dive into "Oblivion's" deep character customization system. And once you've found your new skin, you'll set out to find the missing heir to the throne and close the gates of hell.
"Oblivion" is available for the PC, Xbox 360 and, as of March 19th, for the PS3.
'World of Warcraft'
Talk about losing yourself in an alternate universe. There's a reason this game is nicknamed "World of Warcrack."
And this massively multiplayer PC game first gets its hooks in you with its robust character-creation system. Here there are ten races to choose from (orcs, elves, dwarves, gnomes, etc.), a whole variety of classes (paladin, priest, shaman, warlock) and plenty of professions to take on (alchemy, blacksmithing, jewelmaking).
In "World of Warcraft," you can be whoever and whatever you please (yes, even a huge, hairy bull-beast called a Tauren). And once you start building an avatar and a life for yourself in "World of Warcraft," you may find it difficult to make time for your real life.

Jackie Chan, King of Comedy Kung Fu!
LONDON, England (CNN) -- He's the butt-kicking, karate-chopping, kung fu superstar who rose from nowhere to conquer Hollywood in a spectacularly visual style.
With his compact but wiry 5-foot, 9-inch frame, Jackie Chan seems to pale into insignificance when compared with muscle-bound Hollywood tough guys such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
But combining extraordinary athleticism and an acrobatic style, Chan could probably take them both on in a fight and emerge victorious.
Best known to western audiences as star of the Rush Hour trilogy, Chan is a prolific actor who has made more than 100 films spanning three decades.
But success did not come easy for Chan, who made a string of flops in the early 1970s in Asia.
He struggled for years to break out of the shadow of Bruce Lee, the undisputed kung fu king of the time -- even appearing as a stuntman in two of Lee's films.
But in 1978, Chan landed his first hit in Asia with "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow." This was quickly followed by "Drunken Master," which catapulted him to fame, and he suddenly became one of the highest-paid actors in the industry.
Chan is credited with creating a new film art form, with his comedic take on martial arts, reminiscent of Buster Keaton's slapstick style.
"He totally reinvented Hong Kong cinema," said Renee Witterstaetter, author of "Dying For Action: The Life and Films of Jackie Chan."
"He created a new film art form, mixing humor with martial arts," Witterstaetter said. "It was so different and unique."
Although a household name in his native Hong Kong and most of Asia, Hollywood seemed largely oblivious to his talents.
It was not until 1994 when he made "Rumble in the Bronx," which grossed $10 million in its opening weekend and made it to number one at the U.S. box office, that Chan finally cracked Hollywood.
Soon big-budget hits such as the "Rush Hour" series and "Shanghai Noon," followed.
"Rush Hour" was Chan's first movie to break $100 million at the U.S. box office, earning $141 million, according to the box office tracking Web site, Box Office Mojo. "Rush Hour 2" made $226 million and "Rush Hour 3" has earned $137 million so far.
His current cinematic venture sees him paired with longtime friend Jet Li in "The Forbidden Kingdom" in their first movie collaboration. Set in a mythic, ancient China, it is described as "The Wizard of Oz with lots of martial arts."
The martial arts dream team have already seen "Kingdom" debut at No. 1 with $20.9 million in ticket sales last weekend, but Chan says the reason it took him so long to work with Jet Li is because he didn't like the Hollywood scripts they were initially offered.
Chan, 54, is also quite candid about the fact that he doesn't like most of the Hollywood films he has made. He revealed to CNN: "I didn't really like 'Rush Hour.' In America, everyone likes 'Rush Hour,' but in Asia nobody likes it.
"They like talking too much in America but in Asia they like to fight more in the films."
After the film wrapped in 1998, he wrote on his Web site: "When we finished filming, I was very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved.
"I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor."
Chan has certainly come a long way from his impoverished childhood in Hong Kong, where the story has it that his parents were so poor, they nearly sold him to a British doctor for less than $100.
However, his parents instead enrolled him at the China Drama Academy, a talent school of hard knocks with a draconian regime that included training in music, acrobatics and martial arts that lasted 18 hours a day. Beatings were commonplace.
Children were made to perform headstands for hours on end and Chan describes being forced to run, arms outstretched, carrying two full cups of water, with strict instructions not to spill a drop. With his parents now living in Australia, Chan stayed at the school for ten years and was adopted by his Master.
Undoubtedly, the academy's grueling regime would later stand Chan in good stead, turning him into an incredibly driven and disciplined stuntman turned actor, who always choreographs and performs his own stunts.
As a consequence, no insurance company will underwrite Chan's productions, which are legendary for his death-defying super stunts. They include water-skiing barefoot behind a speeding hovercraft, jumping off a building and swinging from a hot air balloon.
Chan holds the Guinness World Record for "Most Stunts By A Living Actor."
He also holds the record for the most number of takes for a single shot in a film, having shot over 2900 retakes for a complex scene involving a badminton game in "Dragon Lord."
Unsurprisingly, Chan has suffered a litany of injuries in the course of his film career. Over the years, he has dislocated his pelvis and broken his fingers, toes, nose, both cheekbones, hips, sternum, neck and ribs on numerous occasions.
When filming "Police Story" in 1985, he suffered second-degree burns to his hands and palms after sliding 100 feet down a pole festooned in Christmas lights.
Many of the injuries have appeared, in eye-watering viewing, as outtakes or bloopers during the closing credits of his films.
But in 1986, he came close to death while filming "Armor of God," when he fell 45 feet from a tree and fractured his skull, leaving a permanent hole in his head.
Chan explained to CNN's TalkAsia host, Anjali Rao that he never insists on doing his own stunts. It's just the way things are done in Hong Kong.
"Making a film in Hong Kong in the old days was not like Hollywood," he says.
"We didn't have protection like elbow pads and we didn't have the knowledge about safety. I had to risk my life jumping from building to building."
Chan is a one-man movie-making machine. He has his own production and distribution company -- Jackie Chan Emperor Movies -- and controls all aspects of the movie-making process, from casting to directing, producing, screenwriting, choreographing and stunt coordinating. He even has his own stunt team and casting agency.
His director on the Rush Hour series, Brett Ratner told CNN's The Screening Room that Chan's versatility gives him the edge over other martial arts stars like Bruce Lee and Jet Li.
"Jackie is the most gifted actor of the three because he has the most range. Bruce Lee is a legendary performer and martial artist, but I don't think he is as funny as Jackie Chan.
"Jackie can be funny, he can be dramatic, he can do the action and the stunts, he can direct, edit, shoot. He is also a stunt coordinator so he is everything wrapped into one."

Indiana Jones reviewed
Early in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull — which had its tumultuous world premiere today at the Cannes Film Festival — our hero (Harrison Ford) and his sometime pal Mac (Ray Winstone) come up against a convoy of tough Russians. "This ain't gonna be easy," Mac says, and Indy replies, "Not as easy as it used to be."
The old-guy jokes are as true for director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas as for the star. It's 27 years since Raiders of the Lost Ark started the Jones boy on his adventures, 19 years since the most recent Indy movie, The Last Crusade, and 30 years this month since Lucas and Spielberg sat on a Hawaiian beach and made a handshake deal for an action film that one would produce and the other direct. They'd be stupid to ignore the toll that time takes on moviemakers and movie stars. All were in their 30s when they made Raiders. Now Spielberg, Lucas and Ford are, respectively, 61, 64 and 65. And don't forget two other crucial collaborators, composer John Williams and editor Michael Kahn, who have given all the Indy films their cheerfully martial sound and cut-to-the-bone fury.
There are scenes in the new movie that seem like stretching exercises at a retirement home; there are garrulous stretches, and even the title seems a few words too long. But once it gets going, Crystal Skull delivers smart, robust, familiar entertainment. Ford looks just fine, his chest skin tanned to a rich Corinthian leather; he's still lithe on his feet, and can deliver a wisecrack as sharp as a whipcrack. Karen Allen, 56, who was Indy's saucy love Marion Ravenwood in Raiders, still has that glittering smile and vestiges of her old elfin swagger. They needn't break a sweat keeping up with the (relative) kids: 39-year-old Cate Blanchett, the movie's villainess, and Shia LaBeouf, who plays the young lead Mutt Williams, and who may be tapped to continue the series after Ford's retirement — at least that's what Lucas hinted a few days ago here in Cannes.
Crystal Skull is intended, and works effectively, as instant nostalgia — a class reunion of the old gang who in the '80s reinvigorated the classic action film with such expertise and brio. So don't expect the freshness of the what-one-man-can-do plot in Iron Man, or the oneiric visuals of Speed Racer. Spielberg and Lucas, and screenwriters David Koepp and Jeff Nathanson, are looking not forward but back, to the first three films. They know that moviegoers would be disappointed not to see the talismans of Indys past reappear here. Shall we itemize?
1. The Paramount logo dissolves into some kind of mountain. Every Indy films opens this way, from one monument to another. (As Veronica Geng wrote in a review of the first movie, "Spielberg" is German for "play mountain.") In Raiders the logo became a mountain in South America; in Temple of Doom, a bas-relief on a Chinese gong; in The Last Crusade a big boulder in Utah. This time, suggesting more modest aspirations, or maybe kiddingly deflecting the audience's gargantuan expectations, it's a weeny prairie dog hill, from which a critter emerges just before being nearly run over by speeding cars. We're in Nevada, near Area 51, and it's 1957, a time of rock 'n' roll (Elvis's "Hound Dog" on the soundtrack), fear of the Soviets (and why not? they've just penetrated a U.S. military base), fear of The Bomb (hey, what's that mushroom cloud on the horizon?) and mass sightings of UFOs (coming right up).
2. International conspiracies. Nazis in the first and third Indys, Indian Thugees in the second. But it wouldn't be the '50s without Commies, in the chic person of Irina Spalko (played by Blanchett with the severe demeanor of Cyd Charisse's Ninotchka in the 1957 MGM musical Silk Stockings and the black bob Charisse sports in The Band Wagon). Rather than the simple matter of conquering the West militarily, Irina is part of a Soviet plot to cloud our minds by getting access to some secret technology that is concealed either in an Area 51 warehouse or in the remotest jungle mountains of Peru. "We will change you, Mr. Jones, all of you, from the inside," she proclaims. "We will turn you into us." Ewww, creepy. Glad that didn't happen.
3. The Fedora, the bullwhip... the snakes! We see the hat just before we see Indy; brown headwear is still in style in 1957. As for Indy's bullwhip, it's still faster and deadlier than a bad guy's gun. In the opening Area 51 scene, he uses it to disarm about a quillion Russkies, and to swing in Errol Flynn style from one warehoused beam to another. (Mutt will later show the same swinging derring-do on Peruvian jungle vines.) As for the snakes, there's just one, but indy is readier to die in quicksand than to use it as a lifeline. The nifty new predators are South American red ants, which Spielberg and Lucas may have remembered from the 1954 movie The Naked Jungle, and which can swarm over a man by the millions and drag him into their formicary for a nice fat meal.
4. A cool car chase. A lot of the elements in Crystal Skull may feel like mandatory reprises of the old tropes, but the high-speed two-vehicle fight between Indy's team and Irina's goons is up there with the Raiders jeep sequence, more complex and sophisticated in its engineering of physical action. (In the post-film press conference this afternoon, Spielberg said, "I believe in practical magic, not digital magic," and in "real stunts with real people.") If there's a scene that film students will be poring over, decades from now, this is the one.
5. Family revelations. Spielberg movies are often about the separation and reconstituting of a family, and the last two Indy films are no exception. In Last Crusade we met Indy's father (Sean Connery) and learned that Indy's real name was Henry Jones, Jr. Indeed, "Junior" was Dad's apparently derogatory form of address for his son. That gag is repeated here, since — as everyone who's paid the slightest attention to pre-release scuttlebutt knows — Mutt is Indy's son by Marion. (Why is he called Mutt? Presumably because, as we learned at the end of The Last Crusade, Indiana was the name of the Jones family dog; Mutt's just extending the breed.) He enters on a motorcycle, in the leather-jacket regalia Marlon Brando sported in The Wild One, and soon displays some of the athletic skills he must have inherited from his absent dad. Whether the smooth-visaged LaBeouf can grow into Ford's craggy machismo — or even whether he can top the teen Indys that have been played by River Phoenix (in The Last Crusade) and Sean Patrick Flannery (in the TV series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) — is a question later Indy installments will have to answer.
6. Archaeology! Recall that our hero's day job is as a professor of archaeology. On vacations he goes out, makes trouble and saves the world. Or does he? Indy's job, basically, is plundering indigenous cultures for treasure, in capers that will cost hundreds of lives and add exactly nothing to the lore of civilization. (And, in three of the four movies, he comes home empty-handed.) But heck, it's an adventure movie; leave all ethnic scruples home. Scholars of antiquity will be pleased to know that Crystal Skull — with its runic inscriptions, vanished languages, hidden caves and dreadful secrets — is the archaeolog-iest Indy film yet. In fact, the movie is a little plot-heavy around the middle. It seems more determined to tell a complicated story than to use a story as the excuse for a convulsive. nonstop thrill ride.
7. Start with a big bang, end with terrifying mysticism. The creation of these movies always has this method: start with the opening and climactic sequences — in Raiders' case, the South American cave with the rolling rock and the opening of the Ark with the melting skulls — and work inward. (Or as Spielberg says on the new Last Crusade DVD: "How do we fill in the middle?") Here, the bang couldn't be bigger. The 12 min. opener takes Indy into Area 51, where he escapes into what seems to be an ideal Levittown ... except that the people are mannequins, a nuclear bomb is about to be detonated, and Indy has exactly one minute to find a safe place to hide. (That place is one of the film's smartest inspirations.) As for the ending, well, we're not giving everything away. Let's just say that Indy and Marion could be The X Files' Mulder and Scully on assignment in Peru.
We'll see how David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson cope with middle age in their X Files movie later this summer. They may suffer from the occasional creaking joints of Crystal Skull. (And, truth to tell, there was more applause here at the beginning of the screening than at the end.) But they'd be hard-pressed to inhabit the sleek, satisfying adventure that three septuagenarians and their pals dreamed up here. There's a moment in the film where Mutt sees Indy negotiate some really cool bit of action, and the kid can't help mouth a "Wow." That's the right response to this inevitable summer blockbuster. Lucas, Spielberg and Ford ain't the Over the Hill Gang yet.

Big Love
Big Love is an HBO television drama about a Utah family that practices polygamy. Big Love stars Bill Paxton, Chloë Sevigny, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin and Harry Dean Stanton.
The show was co-created by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer who also serve as executive producers. Olsen and Scheffer spent two and a half years researching the premise of the show, with the intent of creating a fair portrayal of polygamy in America without being judgmental. The series theme song is "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys; musical score for the series is composed by David Byrne. The score for the first season was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh.
The series revolves around Bill Henrickson, his three wives Barb (legal wife/first wife), Nicki (second wife) and Margene (third wife), and their combined family of seven children. Henrickson lives with his family in three neighboring houses in Sandy, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City.
Season 1 introduces the main characters and revolves around the family's struggles to live their polygamous lifestyle while keeping it a secret from the outside world. While Bill goes about expanding his chain of home improvement stores ("Henrickson’s Home Plus"), he struggles to balance his three wives and his strained relationship with Nicki's father, Church prophet Roman Grant. From his compound on Juniper Creek, Roman seeks to gain a greater share of the profits from Bill's business ventures. Bill, who is resentfull towards Roman for expelling him from Juniper Creek as a teenager, opposes this and manipulates his alcoholic brother Joey, a former NFL player, to gain a seat on the church's board of directors, in order to undercut Roman's considerable influence and to maintain a level of autonomy from his controlling grasp.
Bill's first wife Barb is shown to be the anchor for the plural Henrickson family, but as the show progresses it is revealed that Barb has mixed feelings about the concept of polygamy and only her love for Bill makes her stay. Meanwhile, second wife Nicki (daughter of Roman) struggles to fit in with modern life outside the compound and her own desire for power within the family dynamic. Nicki compensates for her isolation by developing an addiction to shopping, leading her to become $60,000 in debt via credit card charges.
Third wife Margene (who is barely twenty years old) meanwhile struggles to find her place within the family, as both Barb and Nicki look down upon her due to her youth and fertility, having given birth to two children via Bill and is pregnant with her third child.
Most of season one focuses on the family's struggle to keep their family's secret from their friends, neighbors, and co-workers. However, things come to a head when Barb is nominated for a "Mother of the Year" Award, resulting in her and Bill being outed as a polygamist couple. Meanwhile Joey's mentally unstable wife Wanda poisons Alby Grant (Roman's son and chief minion) when Alby discovers that Bill is using Joey as a pawn in his scheme to undermine Roman's power within the church and threatens the two.

P.S. I Love You
By: Pelagie
A grieving young widow discovers that her late husband has left her a list of tasks revealed in 10 messages, delivered anonymously, intended to ease her out of grief and transition her to a new life.
My review:
Gerard and Hillary has been my favourite actor and actress since "300" and "Boys Don't Cry", and to see them working on a movie together is like beautifully impossible! Maybe because both of them are not familiar with romantic movie, I was full of doubt at first. But after watching this movie, I can't say anything than: brilliant! It's a must-see, it's touchy, it's funny. You can even cry but laugh at the same time. Well, Irish men are always about humour I guess. Anyway, the bottomline is about life must go on, no matter what. You might lose something or someone in your life. You'll be down, sad, and all of that bad thoughts, but you must go on with your life. The world will not be stopped just to follow you, but you gotta follow your own path, because you're future is still there waiting for you.

Shoot 'Em Up
By: Pelagie
Mr. Smith, the angriest, most hardboiled man in the world, finds himself entrusted to protect the most innocent thing of all--a newborn child. When Smith delivers the baby in the middle of a gunfight, he soon discovers that the infant is the target of a shadowy force that has sent a team of mysterious and endless assailants, led by Hertz, to erase all traces of the baby. Amid a hail of bullets and facing every conceivable permutation of gunfight, Smith teams up with a prostitute named DQ to solve the mystery as to why the baby's life is being threatened before this makeshift family all ends up on the wrong side of a bullet. Everyone wants the baby dead. The big question is why?
Another movie played by Clive Owen, si ganteng brewokan, dibantu sama Monica Bellucci and Paul Giamatti. DVDnya udah lama gw beli, tapi baru sempet ditonton skrg, secara dapet label TOP BGT sama temen gw, Marince, yg saban hari terus2an nanyain, "udah nonton blm?? bagus loh!", dgn aktingnya yg meyakinkan.
Padahal sebenernya gw lg pengen nonton film romantic comedy sebagai temen nyantai di rumah! Untuuung gw nontonnya di DVD, bukan di bioskop. Kayanya sih klo gw tonton di bioskop, gw bakal ngerasa agak2 nyesel [meskipun bayarnya cuma 10rb! hehehe].
Film diawali dgn adegan cewe hamil pake baju aneh warna kuning lari2an dgn wajah ketakutan stengah mati. Gw lgs bingung, lho koq bukan Monica Bellucci?? Soalnya gw sangkain si Monica yg bakal jd cewe hamil. Cewe itu ternyata dikejar2 sm seorang laki2 yg membawa senjata. Mereka lari2an papasin si Smith (Clive Owen) yg lg dgn santainya makan wortel di sebuah bangku. Awalnya Smith cuek aja liatin mereka, sampe akhirnya si laki2 ngeluarin pistol dr dlm jaketnya. Nah, klo udah kaya gini, gw yakin Smith bakal ikut ngejar.
Lha wong baby-nya aja kliatan bgt berubah jadi boneka! Hahaha.. Pokonya lari2an dan tembak2an bareng si baby deh! Dan hebatnya, si baby have no scratch at all. Ya iyalaahhh.. si Smith kan critanya tukang tembak handal! Ya ga jek? Hehehe..
Oia, nyokapnya si baby akhirnya mati ditembak sm penjahat2 yg ngejar dia. Hmm... gw memang slalu tertarik sm senjata2 begini! Hehe. Mau ga mau, Smith nyelamatin baby itu lagi deh. Iba dgn keadaan si newborn baby, Smith punya ide utk nitipin si baby ke temennya: DQ (Monica Bellucci), seorang prostitusi khusus [inget ya..
Hehehe. Singkat kata, DQ akhirnya ngebantuin Smith ngurusin si baby, sambil tentu saja melarikan diri dari kejaran Hertz. Satu hal yg gw senengin dari film ini adalah meskipun banyak didominasi dgn scene baku tembak dan bunuh2an, sutradaranya tdk lupa utk menyisipkan bumbu humor didalamnya, seperti Hertz yg selalu ditelpon sm istrinya.. kayanya sih doi disuruh pulang, tapi adaaa aja alesannya.
Funny but smart enough! Memang banyak hal2 impossible yg bermunculan, tapi dikemas dgn sangat baik dan akhirnya bikin gw nyerah utk marah2 [soalnya gw suka sebel sm film yg ga jelas]. Toh si Fandhie pernah bilang: "Sometimes you just have to enjoy the movie". Yup, I agree with you for this time. Hehehe. Pertanyaan lainnya adalah: kenapa si baby dikejar2 dan mo dibunuh sm ratusan anak buah Hertz, plus pihak pemerintah? Gw jg ga ngerti deh. Kayanya sih si baby mengancam bisnis mereka. Secara keseluruhan, gw puas tontonin keperkasaan dan kehebatan Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci who's still looks fabulously beautiful meskipun udah kliatan agak tuwir, dan Paul Giamatti yg agak aneh meranin penjahat ganas [ga biasa aja kayanya]. Anyway, finally I have the same opinion with my friend.. film ini emang TOP BGT! ;)

Mereka Bilang, Saya Monyet!
By: Pelagie
Hahaha.. Maklumlah, doi kurang bisa matching sm film2 festival kaya begini. Hehehe.. pis jo... Nah, klo kesan dan pesan gw? Hmmm... lumayan.. Karna gw dah bener2 terbiasa sm novel2nya Djenar, jadi gw ga kaget lagi nonton filmnya. Gayanya Djenar yg terbuka dan blak2an udah biasa bwt gw. In fact, dulu gw sempet koleksi buku2nya dia. Skrg mah, ntuh buku2 dah jatuh ke tangan org laen! Hehehe.. Gw harus mengancungkan jempol utk Djenar, karna udah berani memfilmkan cerita dari bukunya dia.. dan gw yakin ada banyak komen2 positif dan negatif dr masyarakat. Well.. Well, terbayar sudah jerih payahmu, Djenar! Keep up the good work, and I shall waiting for your next brilliant movie! ;)

Fool's Gold

Ben "Finn" Finnegan is a good-natured, surf bum-turned-treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen's Dowry--40 chests of exotic treasure that was lost at sea in 1715. In his quest, Finn has sunk everything he has, including his marriage to Tess Finnegan and his more-rusty-than-trusty salvage boat, "Booty Calls." Just as Tess has begun to rebuild her life, working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt, Finn discovers a vital clue to the treasure's whereabouts. Certain that his luck will change with the newfound information, Finn maneuvers himself aboard Nigel's yacht and, using his good-natured charm, convinces the tycoon and his Blackberry-wielding, celebutante daughter, Gemma, to join him in the pursuit of the Spanish treasure. Against Tess' better judgment, the search rekindles her love... of discovery. But they are not the only ones after the treasure. Finn's mentor-turned-nemesis Moe Fitch has also set out to claim the prize. Let the treasure hunt begin...
Huihihihi... sempet2in nonton ini film di Hollywood KC dgn timing yg sangat2 tipis! Abis fitnes, I rushed to HKC, menerjang hujan yg sempat bikin gw down (read: gw slalu sebel klo udah turun hujan). Tadinya sih klo jalanan macet bgt, acara nonton solo ini mo gw undur ke hari Kamis, tapi emg dasarnya udah niat, so harus dijadiin! Tiba di HKC jam 19.45 teng! Untuuung bgt filmnya blm mulai, dan yg nonton jg ga banyak2 amat. Sempet kuciwa sama kursi bioskop ini.. koq rendah bgt ya?? Apa gw yg makin pendek?? Ga mungkin lah yaw! Hehehe.. Ok, kembali ke film. Film ini emang udah gw incer sejak ngeliat gambarnya muncul di website 21. Siapalah yg ga deg2an ngeliat si keren Matthew McConaughney, dan bersanding pula sm si Kate Hudson? Jadi inget film mereka yg "How To Loose A Guy In 10 Days". I just love 'em! Kayanya cocok bgt dipasangin berdua. Di film ini ceritanya mereka dah nikah dan sdg dlm proses divorce. Lucunya, salah satu alasan mengapa mereka nikah adalah karna "keperkasaan" Fin. Hahaha.. ada2 aja. Diiringi dgn ketertarikan gw terhadap dunia scuba diving, maka makin semangat lah gw nonton film ini. Dikit2 udah nyeletuk "wooowww..." atau "cooooollllll...", hahaha.. norak bgt deh gw! Anyway, this movie provides a good humour, menuntut utk mikir dikit pas si Finn cerita ttg asal usul harta karun yg mereka cari. Gw agak bingung soalnya dia neranginnya cepet bgt! Gw jg agak kaget pas tau klo Donald Sutherland (as Nigel) ga jadi bad guy di film ini, secara dia sering bgt jadi orang jahat di film2. Mungkin karna kentara kali ya ke-tua-annya?? Hihi.. Satu tokoh yg menurut gw jg kurang penting kehadirannya adalah Gemma, anaknya si Nigel. Ga sreg aja. Bagian yg bikin gw sempet bingung juga adalah pas mereka bisa nyari harta karun sendiri (tadinya ceritanya mereka berlomba gitu sm gank-nya Moe). Gank Moe ini juga sempet ilang tuh.. entah nyari harta karun kemana, lalu pas udah deket akhir film, si Moe muncul lagi (out of nowhere juga!), dan membantu Fin dan kawan2. Ketika akhirnya Fin cs menemukan harta karun itu, gw pikir bakal dijadiin milik sendiri (kaya film Into The Blue), tapi ternyata harta karun itu disumbangin ke museum dan bisa diliat semua orang. History memang seharusnya dilestarikan dan dijaga. Well done guys! ;)

The Darjeeling Limited
By: Pelagie
A year after the accidental death of their father, three drug-addicted brothers -- each suffering from depression - meet for a train trip across India. Francis, the eldest, has organized it. The brothers argue, sulk, resent each other, and fight. The youngest, Jack, estranged from his girlfriend, is attracted to one of the train's attendants. Peter has left his pregnant wife at home, and he buys a venomous snake. After a few days, Francis discloses their surprising and disconcerting destination. Amid foreign surroundings, can the brothers sort out their differences? A funeral, a meditation, a hilltop ritual, and the Bengal Lancer figure in the reconciliation.
I kinda don't know how to explain this movie, so I just put its summary, taken from Wikipedia. It quite tell the whole of it (well, if you can get it). What I know is that this movie is interesting to be seen, and what I can figure out it talked about family, togetherness, and trust of each other (especially in a family). I love the shooting took place, most of it in India, with all of its folk music background -- even though it doesn't show India's interesting places.. I love their kinky-without-expression style of conversation, and I love the idea of "spiritual journey". Enjoy! ;)
The Darjeeling Limited is a drama-comedy film directed by Wes Anderson, and starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman. It was written by Anderson, Schwartzmann, and Roman Coppola. The film also stars Waris Ahluwalia, Amara Karan, Barbet Schroeder and Anjelica Huston, with Natalie Portman, Irfan Khan and Bill Murray in cameo roles.
The film begins with a businessman (Murray) racing to reach a train in rural India. As he is about to lose the train we see Peter (Brody) also running to the same train. Peter makes it to the train, leaving the businessman behind. Peter makes his way to his compartment, where he finds his brothers Jack (Schwartzman) and Francis (Wilson). The latter's head and face are heavily bandaged, as he was in a serious motorcycle accident. Peter and Jack have come to India, apparently at Francis' suggestion, on the titular train, on what he hopes to be a "spiritual journey".
All three have taken advantage of the local pharmaceutical shops upon their arrival in India and summarily dip into each others' stash of drugs. Jack, who hasn't been back in the States in a year, is a writer, and had written a story while in France. The story is apparently based on a flashback shown later in the movie. Jack has a return ticket, and asks Peter not to tell Francis. Francis is trying to get the family back together, and Peter is away from his seven-and-a-half-months pregnant wife, who doesn't know he's in India, and asks Jack not to tell Francis.
Along the trip, Jack falls in love with one of the stewardesses, Rita (Amara Karan) and proceeds to have sex with her. On the first stop, the brothers buy a venomous snake, Francis has one of his shoes stolen by a street boy, and Jack buys pepper spray. The next morning back on the train, the snake escapes; the chief steward (Waris Ahluwalia) captures and confiscates it, then threatens to kick them off the train before relenting. They find the train is stopped because it is lost, having apparently took a wrong turn the night before. While the conductors try to locate where they are, the brothers head up to a sand dune to perform a ceremony Francis says will bring them closer together. Instead, Francis reveals the real reason why they are on their trip, to connect with their mother (Anjelica Huston) who did not attend their father's funeral. He withheld this information from them on purpose, knowing that if he told them to begin with, they would never have come. Later that night, Francis and Peter get into a heated argument, leading to a small fight in their compartment, and Jack maces them both. After this fails, Jack runs and smashes into a glass window, which disrupts people on the train. They are kicked off, and Francis' assistant Brendan (Wallace Wolodarsky) leaves him and gets back on the train after Francis insults him about his inability to grow body hair.
Left with only their luggage and a letter from their mother, they try to perform the ceremony, which involves peacock feathers, praying and going off by themselves. Although the instructions were apparently to bury the feather, only Francis performs the ritual correctly. They later camp out for the night. The next morning, they discover three boys trying to cross a rapid river on a wooden raft. The water starts flowing faster, and rips off their support rope which causes all three boys to flip over. Jack, Peter and Francis run to save the boys. Jack and Francis save their kids, but the third boy whom Peter tried to save is killed when the boat flips over and his head smashes into the rocks. The other two boys bring the brothers back to their village, with Peter holding the dead boy. The villagers aid the three brothers and invite them to the boy's funeral as they are boarding a bus to leave. As they pay their respects, they have a flashback to their father's funeral which is the basis for Jack's short story.
They are taken to the airport by bus, and are going to take the next flight out back home. Peter finds out that he and his wife's child will be a boy. When they reach the plane, they decide instead to find their mother. They go to a monastery in the Himalayas where they find their mother, who appears to be a nun or missionary. Francis explains his bandages telling that he "smashed into a hill on purpose on [his] motorcycle". They ask their mother why she did not attend their father's funeral, to which she replies simply that she "didn't want to" and says that the people here needed her, to which the brothers reply, "What about us?" She attempts to bring them all together through meditation, but they think about the people in their lives and the ones they've met along the way. Their mother then leaves saying "To be continued...".
The next morning, Jack explains to Peter and Francis that their mother has left. At a stroke of inspiration during breakfast, they head to the top of the mountain, burying Peter's feather and performing the ritual correctly.
In the end, all three brothers head to the train station, but they are already late for their train, and they run after it to catch it. In this symbolic scene, the brothers literially throw away their baggage they brought with them on the journey, leaving their bags with the porters as they board the moving train. They make it to their compartment, and are greeted by the head steward and their stewardess, as they were when the movie began. Francis goes to give back the passports he took from Jack and Peter, but they both tell him to hang on to them for safe keeping. They then leave the passenger compartment to "have a drink and smoke a cigarette."

Speed Racer (2008)
Born to race cars, Speed Racer is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized - the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.
Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner but uncovers a terrible secret - some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits.

Microsoft has "no plans" for Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive
Company says it will not be using Sony technology in its "game console."
"As we have stated, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360," said a Microsoft official in an email to GamePro on Monday. "Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."
The statement comes amid persistent reports that Microsoft will release a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360 given the discontinuation of the console's now defunct HD DVD drive.
On Friday, the Economic Daily News (via Digitimes) reported that Pegatron Technology has secured an order from Microsoft to manufacture Xbox 360 models with internal Blu-ray drives for release this fall.
