The King's Speech follows King George VI, also known as Bertie as he rises to the throne in 1936. It starts out with his life as a Duke, largely out of the public eye, because of his stammering. As the radio picks up steam in the 1930's, the royal family is required to give more public broadcasts, which is difficult for the young Prince Albert.

The unprepared king turns to a radical speech therapist, Lionel Logue, to help overcome his nervous stutter and the two forge a friendship.

From John Carpenter - Master of Horor Movie: The Ward

The Ward John CarpenterIn Toronto International Film Festival, Carpenter makes his return with a film called The Ward. John Carpenter is a celebrated filmmaker who frequently has worked in the sci-fi and horror genres. Carpenter has not made a feature film in almost nine years.

Written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, the story follows a young woman named Kristen who is institutionalized after apparently setting fire to a house. Once inside “the ward,” Kristen becomes terrorized by a ghost of a former patient.

According to critics who have already watched this movie, the ghost which is the center focus of the movie isn’t even remotely scary, and it doesn’t help that her make-up effects look poorly crafted (even for a lower budget independent feature). Furthermore, critics said that the story concludes with one of the most ridiculous twists, but not so ridiculous that you won’t see it coming from a mile away.

But since Carpenter is still a name brand, even when critics gave his movie some bad scores, there are still a lot of moviegoers expecting Carpenter's horor movie and for them, this January is the time to watch John Carpenter's The Ward. Below is the most recent released long trailer.

The Eagle

The Eagle Movie PosterTHE EAGLE’s screenplay is adapted by Jeremy Brock from Rosemary Sutcliff’s classic novel “The Eagle of the Ninth”. This movie brought us back to 140 AD, that's when two men – master and slave – venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism.

20 years earlier, Rome’s 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under the command of Flavius Aquila, marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem. They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists.
Hearing a rumor that the Eagle has been seen in a tribal temple in the far north, Flavius’ son Marcus (Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into action.

Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out into the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the hallowed Eagle. Along the way Marcus realizes that the mystery of his father’s disappearance may well be linked to the secret of his own slave’s identity and loyalty – a secret all the more pressing when the two come face-to-face with the warriors of the fearsome Seal Prince (Tahar Rahim).

Starring Jamie Bell, Channing Tatum, Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong and Tahar Rahim, directed by Kevin MacDonald
and produced by Tessa Ross, Duncan Kenworthy, Caroline Hewitt. Release date is set on February 11th, 2011 (wide).

Most Anticipated Movies in 2011

Super 8In 2011, we will see huge franchises rolling out new installments, but it will also include a few original releases.

We find a sequel audiences didn’t even expect to happen anymore: the fourth film from the “Mission: Impossible” series, now going under the name of “Ghost Protocol.”

On April 15 comes another sequel fans didn’t even dare hope will ever be made: “Scream 4,” which will reunite the old cast and also bring on board countless young stars, many of them already popular for their work on TV.

We will also find the third and final film in the “Transformers” franchise. “The Dark of the Moon” comes out on July 1 and is highly anticipated for several reasons: first, it’s the last; secondly, is in 3D and, thirdly, it’s no longer with Megan Fox but with Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

On June 2, “Cars 2” will come out and it will hopefully turn out to do the same for Pixar as “Toy Story 3,” the highest grossing film of 2010 and the biggest animated film ever..

On June 2, JJ Abrams unleashes upon the world “Super 8,” a film that has been kept much under wraps for most part of 2010, but whose existence has long been confirmed. Buzz about it is building online as we speak.

So far, moviegoers got only a teaser, which failed to show too much about the film: it did show, however, that a train containing “items” from Area 51 was derailed and something got out.

Up next on the most anticipated list are two superhero films that have been long in the making: “The Green Lantern” with Ryan Reynolds and “Captain America: The First Avenger” with Chris Evans. They’re out in theaters on June 17 and July 22, respectively.

The last installment of “Harry Potter,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II,” comes first, representing the end of a very long, adventurous and, above all, record-breaking successful journey. Set your calendars for July 15: it’s the end of an era. In 3D, of course.

0ther movies that are also highly anticipated are: "Sucker Punch," “Source Code,” “Cowboys and Aliens,” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I,” "Battle Los Angeles," and "Thor." Below is the first theatrical trailer of Transformers: The Dark of the Moon.
